Our Verdict

PPDG direct purchases have been known to earn 5x with INK, making the deal even better. No reselling play here, but can still be useful for general use.

I don’t see the deal on Groupon. It’s full price now.

The last set of Groupon cards I bought from PPDG were not activated and could not be redeemed. Its been a few weeks and Im still struggling to recover the funds from Paypal.

I have bought many cards from PPDG in the past with absolutely no issues but they have been really bad about handling this. Of course the next step is a charge-back however I wanted to give them a chance to make things right.

As a precaution I would always check your GC’s balance if possible right after purchase. Unfortunately with Groupon you can not do this without immediately redeeming them to your account.

to be clear – shouldn’t have anything to do with regular paypal.

I was refunded within ~30 minutes of submitting my refund request on ebay to PPDG (the seller).

something along the lines of “it recently came to my attention that these gift cards I bought were not activated. could you please refund them. thank you”

Its hard to keep things straight when Ebay, PayPal and PayPal Digital gifts are three separate entities now.

My point of contact was first through Ebay trying to contact the seller (PPDG). After no response I contacted Ebay who responded that they dont cover digital goods under buyer protection & that I should contact PayPal. Through PayPals resolution service I tried to contact the seller again with no response after 5 days. So I escalated the case and PayPal has been waiting from a response from PPDG for 14 days.

As you could imagine this is all very frustrating to a buyer. I imagine this would have been a lot easier when the 3 companies listed above were consolidated. I really attempt to try and not to contact my credit card company unless absolutely necessary however after almost a month of waiting I think it is.

just do a refund request on ebay with slightly more words than the message I posted above. don’t overcomplicate things

Hi. Do you know if the Simplycash would earn 5x on PPDG/Groupon as well?

Darn. I couldn’t get approved for the ink but I did for the American Express simplycash. Do you happen to know if Gyft gets 5x cashback with the simplycash card? I looked through your posts and I couldn’t get a consensus about that.
