The Offer

  • Purchase $50 of select gift cards at Shoprite and receive a $10 Shoprite credit for your next grocery shopping.

“Offer valid on Dinner and a movie Fandango and Darden, Aeropostale, TGI Fridays, Domino’s, Xbox, cold Stone Creamery, Sephora, Regal Entertainment Group, and JC Penney gift cards only.”

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 5/30/15.
  • $10 credit can be used for 2 weeks after time of purchase.
  • $10 credit can not be used to purchase gift cards.
  • From what I’m told, this offer is unrelated to your Shoprite card, so you can do it multiple times (one per transaction) and you don’t need to show your Shoprite card at time of purchase.
  • Typically with these deals, the $10 credit prints on the receipt. Be sure to save it.
  • When using the $10 credits, I’m not sure if you can use more than one $10 credit per purchase, i.e. you may have to split up your grocery purchases in $10 increments for it to work.

Our Verdict

Nice deal if you need these gift cards. If you don’t need them, there could be some resale opportunity here for someone who has groceries to buy at Shoprite anyway. Sephora, TGI, and Darden all have resale values of ~80%.

I disagree. It’s a break even or better deal. I use the $10 coupons to buy groceries I need to buy anyway, so it’s almost the same as $10 off. Just more pesty. But I’m getting points for free, which is more than I can say for most vgc purchases.

buying for $50 and selling for $40 to get $10 back doesn’t seem like a bright idea.

Actually these print in a separate coupon. There is a limit of one per transaction. You have to spend at least $10. They may ask for your card as that is routine, but you don’t need one to buy or redeem.
