Trying to get the Staples GC, when I get to Checkout, it doesn’t let me log into PayPal for some reason, no matter how many times I try. Anyone ran into this issue? Thanks!

Will Ebay ban the accounts if the code is used twice in one household?

I asked a similar question above. Deerseason was able to do so but it doesn’t mean he’s not in ebay’s banhammer Que system to get a warning/ban soon. Then again maybe he’ll make out and ebay won’t apply similar rules to shared household/IP address accounts. I admit I’m tempted, but at the same time I have to ask myself if the risk is worth the reward. Considering I buy a lot from ebay and knowing how they operate with murky/invisible rules, I’m leaning towards no.

hmmmmm…… How exactly would they know? (esp. if you’re using two separate ebay accounts, with two separate paypal accounts & two separate ink cards? I even logged on the second time via an anon. browser setting? Or am I still somehow marked?

ah, shared IP address accounts….. maybe that explains why I got the dreaded “something went wrong” error message on the spouse’s account…. Next time, to the office.

Do NOT do it at your office! If that IP address is shared with anyone who has ever done business with ebay while there you’ll be linked to them.

This is why you find so many stories of room mates in college or in one case a power seller on ebay who was banned after an employee was linked to him via IP address and got everyone banned. In both cases you’ll find people upset and feeling they were screwed

It’s for this very reason I’ve passed on ebay deals when using wifi at a hotel. It’s just not worth the risk. You’ll no doubt find people who will chime in and say they had no problems, but that’s besides the point. It’s almost like accidentally getting a woman pregnant, only takes one time!

Remember, you just need 15 dollars of actual non ebay-gc merchandise to trigger the discount as long as your total order is 75 dollars or more. I purchased a 50 dollar Target GC (plus 2.99) and a 50 dollar eBay gc (the ebay gc is via email delivery) so this was more like $15 off 50 for me, minus 2.99 for the shipping.

I’m sure there are more clever ways to max this out, but I wanted to just take advantage of the discount while it lasts. With the ebay gc and the target GC I’ll live to roll the deal another day when I actually have something I need to get (Staples GC isn’t worth it for me since I have a ton of discover rewards I still need to redeem, and I get a 20% bonus with redeeming for Staples GC anyway)

Sometimes clever doesn’t always work out though. I remember reading on SD when the last 1-2 flash sales like this didn’t work out for those who created orders consisting of ebay gc + filler item. From what I recall they ended up losing the coupon, ebay gc was rejected and they had to pay for the filler item out of pocket. Obviously this is just hearsay as far as I’m concerned since I didn’t personally experience this and the people of SD aren’t collectively a clever bunch. Regardless, I didn’t do it because I thought this was a plausible outcome even before the stories rolled out.

In your case having a Target gc may help you in the even there’s more issues. I’m sure ebay is more prepared for those type of orders this time around as well.

Yeah, the first time I read about this method a $20 off $100+ coupon was running at the time, but when I tried it the order hit a snag and I never got the discount. The gift cards processed fine, but the physical item ended up in the ether: I could see it only if I looked at the gift card order–otherwise it was like I hadn’t purchased it, and there wasn’t a charge in my PayPal account for it–and the seller had no record of the sale occurring at their end. I called eBay and they assured me that everything was fine, it was something at PayPal’s end; they said they would contact them and the seller to get it resolved, but nothing came of it. I ended up reordering the item at full price.

Odd, I paid with my paypal balance and it says my payment is pending. Anyone know how long this usually takes to clear up?

Anyone ballsy enough to try this on a second ebay account or successfully did so during the last flash coupon 1-2 weeks ago?

I did it on my wife’s account as well as mine (same with last week). Different names/paypal accounts, same address. No problems.

Glad to hear success stories.

About a year ago I was buying same promotional items across both my wife and I ebay accounts. After about two months I received warning emails across both accounts, basically telling me if I double-dip across both accounts again we’ll be banned. Many people have had this happen and consequently I’m a bit averse to using multiple accounts with this coupon.

The terms of this promotion don’t state either way if it’s limited to only one ebay account. Then again, the terms of promotional items (daily deal gift cards) likewise don’t have any type of exclusions and I still was warned. As ya’ll probably know, ebay has fuzzy logic and isn’t particularly fond of providing clear terms and conditions.

Hmm, I’m a little worried on this front now–I also used an eBay gift card, but not to pay for the entire amount–as I just noticed it says this on their terms page: “Coupon … cannot be combined with any other Coupon or used when paying with an eBay Gift Card.”

Splender too slow, I just went with iConsumer. Applied the code to 2 Chevrons, paid with ebay e-gift card. Success!
