Our Verdict

How good this offer is depends on how much you value Hawaiian Airline miles, personally I don’t get a lot of value out of them so I’ll be giving this offer a miss, especially since the annual fee isn’t waived the first year. Although I know some of you will find this useful, thus the posting.

The standard offer on this card is 35,000 miles after $1,000 in spend with no annual fee waived, so this is 15,00 miles better than that standard offer.

What’s the latest info on Barclaycard’s rules? I got the bonus for this card back in May 2014. Closed it when the annual fee came due in 2015 because they wouldn’t give me anything for keeping it open. Is Barclay’s 18 months, 2 years? other?

Thanks. All that and I only got the standard offer when I logged into my account. Must be targeted or something.

If you need hotel points, these transfer to Hilton HHonors at 1:1.5, so 75,000 HHonors points for $89. Not bad.

Correction: Can only transfer in 10,000 increments, so it’s like getting 70,000 HHonors points for $89, with 5,000 Hawaiian airline miles left over.

From the West Coast at least 50k miles can be an easy RT ticket for $89. True that weekend departures are hard to find but if you are available on weekdays then flights can be had for as low as 35k miles. Hawaii is always fun to visit, mix in with SPG points and a cheap trip can be had.

I got this offer, but after looking at their website for the dates I want to fly, a lot of the available award seats cost 50,000 miles roundtrip. There are very few available at the 35k RT and only on certain dates. I’m thinking they will devalue and their standard offer on the credit card will be 50,000 in the near future.

The cost in miles is lower if you have the credit card

Yes, I know. But if sign-in and search, it’s still much higher than before. Regularly, before it’s 40k RT Hawaii-US mainland or 35k with the credit card. Now, you see 50k RT. Or for me in March 2016, 80k Roundtrip. For that amount, I’m better using their miles to book American Airlines or transferring it to Hilton,

I find the best use is for interisland transfers. There is always availability and usually costs 7,500 miles per leg. That can really stretch out those miles. Plus you don’t need RT interislands if you start on one island and go home from another. Done this about 4 times. Works great.
