A Look At The Chase Free FICO Score Dashboard

In case you didn’t know, Chase has started offering a free FICO score to Slate credit card holders. They are using the data found in your Experian credit report to calculate this score and the classic 2008 scoring model. The score is updated monthly.

I don’t have a Chase Slate card (I try to always focus on large sign up bonuses or cards with a category bonus), but myFICO user HeavenlyFlower shared the below picture of what this new credit dashboard looks like:

I always like the graphics that Chase use and this is probably the cleanest, best looking dashboard I’ve seen. It does a great job of showing you where you stand and what areas you can improve on, for example HeavenlyFlower’s main issue is that their age of accounts is quite low. Naturally this will improve over time (as long as they don’t continue to open too many new accounts).

If you have the Chase Slate and don’t already have access to this credit dashboard, you can call or send them a secured message to request a new EMV chip card and this benefit. It will slowly be rolled out to all cardholders, but you can call in to skip the queue.

Unfortunately Chase has no plans to roll this feature out to any other credit cards at the moment. This is a real shame as it’s not easy to get an Experian FICO score for free. I’d really love to see this benefit rolled out to at least all of the Chase issued & branded cards (e.g Chase Freedom & Chase Sapphire Preferred) at the very least. Hopefully American Express expand their pilot program to all cardholders, as this would put significant pressure on Chase to do the same.

The other option is that enough people request this feature from Chase that they themselves decide to expand this program. I’ve already sent them a secured message asking as much and will likely bring it up whenever I call customer service for other issues.

The Chase Slate FICO is a marketing scam. They update only once a month to Experian…before your statement cut off date so any payments made on your credit card, charges etc are as of the cut off date. In my case I paid off over $2k on my Chase card end of October 2016. Chase fed Experian my accounting activity information mid October. Experian publishes on the the 5th of each month. Here it is Nov 17 and Experian won’t be accurately reflecting my Chase Slate card payment activity until December 5 where it will show the October pay down and the November payment I made on November 17 won’t reflect until January 5 2017. Chase’s policy on when they report to the report is almost 2 months old by the time Experian gets the actual correct information. Basically the monthly score you see online they offer as a “Perk” for having the card is garbage and therefore completely inaccurate score as of the date Experian is reporting it to you.
