AirBnB Increases First Booking Bonus To $50 (Up From $25) On Bookings Of $200+ (Up From $75)

AirBnB is one of my favorite places to book accommodation, I find it incredible value in two different situations: when I’m staying in the same place for an extended period of time (their short term apartment rentals are great value) and when I’m travelling in a large group (it’s much cheaper than multiple hotel rooms and much more family friendly). I’m still crossing my fingers American Express will come out with an AirBnB co-branded credit card.

Referral Bonus

AirBnB has offered a first booking referral bonus for awhile now, in the past they have offered a bonus of $25 on your first booking when you spend $75 or more. They have now increased the bonus to $50, but the minimum spend requirement has also increased to $200. This minimum spend requirement excludes cleaning fees & taxes.

How the bonus works is like this:

  • You join AirBnB using somebodies referral link
  • You make a qualifying booking of $200 or more (excluding cleaning fees & taxes)
  • You will receive a $50 discount

The person that referred you will also receive a $25 bonus (this has not increased or decreased). If you decide to host the person that referred you will receive a bonus of $75.

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned earlier, I think AirBnB is the best value on long stays/stays with a lot of people. Because these stays are usually well over $200, the increased spend requirement shouldn’t be a big deal for most people. I’ve only had positive experiences with AirBnB so far, but I definitely prefer to stay in places with a bit of ambiance rather than hotels that look exactly the same no matter where in the world you travel.

If you’d like to say thanks, consider using my referral link. AirBnB seems to change the referral bonus fairly regularly, so it might drop down to $25 again if you’re planning on completing a stay that’s less than $200.
