Airbnb has partnered with Amex to allow users to use their Amex login credentials to sign up for Airbnb and book stays. We’ll also be able to redeem Membership Reward points for Airbnb stays. (In all the hype over the recent Amex Offer for Airbnb it seems we all missed the partnership aspect of the offer.)
Login with Amex
Instead of filling out your personal information when first signing up for an Airbnb account, you can now simply enter your Amex login credentials and all the rest of the info will be auto-filled.
Right now, it looks like the Sign up with Amex option is not showing if you sign up with a referral link (for a $20 credit toward a $75 rental), but presumably that will be fixed eventually.
If you already have an Airbnb account, you can link your Amex account by going to Profile > Trust & Verifications, then scroll to the bottom of the page where it says for the Amex verification option.
Verification Badge
When signing up with your Amex credentials, you’ll then get a special badge which shows you as an Amex cardholder in an effort to promote trust.
Other verification options offered by Airbnb are Facebook, Google, and Linkin.
Checkout
You’ll now be able to checkout using the Amex Express Checkout system. If you are paying with an Amex credit card, you just choose a card from your login to pay with.
The Amex Checkout system has been around for a few months and works at numerous other retailers as well, such as Newegg and Ticketmaster.
Use Points for Airbnb Stays
As part of this partnership, you will now be able to redeem Membership Reward points for Airbnb stays. You can pay for all or part of your rental with points.
Okay, but what’s the redemption rate?
It’s 143 points per dollar. Not a good deal at all.
Amex Offer
To celebrate the new partnership, they’ve released an offer which allows us to get $50 off $100 purchase when paying with a registered Amex card on Airbnb. We covered this offer yesterday.
