• Receive a $150 cash bonus from BBVA when you open  BBVA Compass ClearChoice Checking account and do the following:
  • Add a BBVA Compass savings or Money Market account within two months
  • Have one or more electronic deposits totaling $1,000 in a calendar month from an unrelated third party post to the checking account

The Fine Print

• Valid until September 31st, 2014
• Bonus is not paid out in a lump sum, you receive $10 per month for twelve months an additional $30
• Must not have held a BBVA checking account within the past 90 days, must not be a current account holder
• $25 minimum account opening
• All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

If you closed your account within 180 days, you will be charged a fee of $25. This shouldn’t be an issue as you’d want to keep this account open for twelve months to get the full bonus. There is also a monthly charge of $4 which is avoidable if you do any one the following:

• Receive at least one direct deposit of $300 or more from unrelated third parties
• Receive cumulative Direct Deposit transactions totaling $600 or more from unrelated third parties
• Maintain an average daily balance of $1,500 or more

Our Verdict

The fact that this might be a hard pull is a deal breaker for me, some people have reported only receiving a soft pull but it’s too much of a risk for a low reward. If you’re looking for a similar deal, we’d recommend the Santander deal which pays out $20 per month and doesn’t have the twelve month restriction.
