According to this SEC filing, Alaska Airlines plans to increase the sign up bonus on their co-branded credit card in May of 2016. The best current bonus is 25,000 miles upon approval and $100 statement credit after $1,000 in spend (the public bonus is 25,000 miles upon approval).
In May the sign up bonus will be 30,000 miles after $1,000 in spend, it’s unclear if the $100 statement credit will reappear or not.
What Alaska Airlines doesn’t point out in the above table is that all of the other cards frequently offer a sign up bonus of 50,000 miles or more and often come with the annual fee waived in the first year. Will be interesting to see if Alaska Airlines decides to compete at that level or stick to lesser 30,000 mile offerings. Bank of America & Alaska Airlines extended their contract last year and also added a first bag free benefit and no foreign transaction fees for cardholders.
Other Facts
- Alaska Airlines also expects their credit card partnership with Bank of America to add $60 million in incremental revenue in 2016. This prediction indicates Alaska Airlines expects massive growth in this area, considering all Mileage Plan revenue generated $34 million in 2015 (an increase of 12%). I assume what they meant to say was that they expected ‘Other’ Revenue to generate $60 million in 2016.
- They increase affiliate commissions on this card in 2016
- As of December 31, 2015, they had approximately 161 billion miles outstanding

The direct link you posted seems not working any more. can you provide a new one
i remember when there was a 50k offer in 2013.
im holding out for 50k.
slim chance?
AFAIK every time they have offered 50k it was meant to be targeted and they messed it up. Doubt we’ll see any easy to get 50k offer any time soon, especially with this information but who knows?
With all the nonsense that’s gone on recently, what’s the limit on the number of Alaska credit cards you’re allowed to have? Does anyone actually know?
Just got a targeted 30,000k offer in the mail today…
If I already have a personal and business card with Alaska, should I be canceling those before applying again for these ones?
That has not generally been necessary.
Hmm… do I see an AS devaluation coming?
That’s what I am afraid of. Time to burn my 115K AS miles?
No foreign transaction fees on the Alaska Visa? Can you provide a source on that please?
The foreign transaction fee will be gone by summer.
25*20>30*1, IMO. No spend was huge, and the $100 bonus for spending $1k was nice too. Then someone decided to f&%k it up, and completely destroyed what had already been accomplished, besides for making it impossible for others to do. I’m sure we all know who I’m talking about. I don’t know if he has any clue what damage he’s done, and what the fallout was. That’s one of my biggest gripes with these blogs, besides for awful judgment, terrible greed, and no shame in stealing others ideas and ruining them, they’re so often COMPLETELY CLUELESS about the game. If you’re gonna devote yourself to writing about it and blogging as the resident expert, at least have to basic knowledge of something who casually browses the forums and lightly plays the game. Thank you DoC, both for using better judgment than most, and for actually knowing your subject better than can be said about most of blogosphere.
I have to say I agree with you. After his pretty evident involvement with killing the HIGC and BoA tricks, I’m pretty glad karma has bitten him in regards to personal relationships.
I think the last time he was hiring for his site, he was trying to start a family. I think it’s for the better that didn’t happen; that type of recklessness and disregard for others should really be discouraged.
It’s insanely cool to be happy that someone’s marriage ended in divorce simply because they took away a credit card trick from you. 🙂
Damn son, you’ve got a lot of hate. You should really learn how to let some of that go.
That’s a pretty twisted thing to say.
no we dont
I agree. When an interest has become a greedy biz…The points and miles world is full of bad tricks. We want to maximize the benefits, not to kill the goose that laid the golden eggs.
For the most part you can only get that best offer with a dummy booking on alaskaair.com. Not sure why the link is erroring out
