FYI with the Amazon third party gift cards, they are more often delivered by Amazon’s delivery people. They just throw the extremely light envelope on your porch pretty carelessly. I’ve had 2 blow away so far (caught on video).

What was Amazon’s explanation when you showed them the video?

I didn’t have to show them the video. Called customer service and told them I had it on video and they sent out another one. They added notes so their delivery people would be more careful. It would be a lot easier if they would just deliver them through USPS.

I was wondering why I received a gc on a Sunday once or twice. Now I know that Amazon themselves deliver it. Amazon CS is very easy to deal with unlike some other companies.

Just my opinion, but I really don’t see this type of ‘deal’ as really adding anything to the DoC site, and it detracts from its overall very useful focus. Honestly, if you can’t find a discount at most chain restaurants, you aren’t trying very hard. Having all the better stuff getting buried under an avalanche of ads/discounts like dansdeals just isn’t useful.

I know bloggers want to make money, and if this type of post is what you want to be known for, that’s your choice, of course. It just isn’t what I come here for.

This is a good deal and it’s actually profitable for resale. Here’s what I’d do:

Purchase $40 Amazon GC using a card that earns 5% and going through JetBlue portal
Use $40 Amazon GC to purchase this deal going through JetBlue portal again

240 jetblue points + $2 back. Deal is much better if you’ve got one of the 10-20% off Amazon offers as well or can sell to a private exchange.

Also has very little to do with us making money, most people go through jetblue so we don’t make much on these posts. We still post ebay GC deals even though we make $0 from those.

Thanks, and I no doubt am not alone in catching why these deals are quite useful, for meeting min spends, and yes, even making bit of $ esp. when you can stack with jetblue etc.. I’m grateful you do post these deals — I was only sour that I’d not seen it quick enough. 🙂

Spelling pedant time: it’s “lightning”. Unless the deal involves changing the hue of something. 😉

Uh, they don’t. Amazon uses the correct-for-this-meaning spelling ‘Lightning’, meaning something that happens very quickly. The blog post made an error saying ‘Lightening’, which is an unrelated word that means the opposite of darkening.

Well, eating at IHOP for sure isn’t going to “lighten” you.

15-18% off is pretty common for Ihop gift cards (source: Giftcardgranny)
this deal is 20% off. Not a real deal IMHO.

while this is true, this is a brand new card, the risk is minimal.
