American Express Delta Cardholders Now Get $100 (Really $20) Discount On CLEAR Memberships

The Discount

Direct link to details

Delta are now offering a $100 discount to their American Express Delta Skymiles cardholders, the discount applies to primary cardholders only (not authorized users) and the following cards:

  • Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card
  • Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card
  • Delta Reserve Credit Card
  • Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card
  • Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card
  • Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card

To receive the discount you need to use your Delta card to pay. Normally a years membership will cost $179, with this discount this is reduced to $79. You’ll automatically be renewed each year if you fail to cancel, the rate you receive will depend on your status with Delta and is as follows:

  • Diamond Medallion® members: Complimentary
  • Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallion members: $79 per year
  • General SkyMiles Members: $99 per year

You can also receive the above rates in your first year if you don’t have a Delta card. Because of this, it’s not really a $100 discount at all, it’s a $20 discount as anybody could become a Delta member and get the $99 pricing.

What Is CLEAR?

CLEAR makes it easier and quicker to get through airport security lanes at select airports (and select times at those airports). This is possible with dedicated CLEARlanes at these airports. You need to present your boarding pass and tap your finger to use these lanes. It currently operates out of the following airports:

clear

You still need to go through physical screening.

Our Verdict

If CLEAR is in your home airport and you travel a lot then it might be worth it, but personally I find it to be overpriced for what it offers with very limited coverage. At least you can lock in a $99 price if you’re a Delta member I guess.

They won’t get my money until they bring back the CLEAR card.

Are there any credit cards which will reimburse you for the CLEAR membership either as a perk (I think CNB Visa Infinite does) OR as an incidental travel cost (I imagine CSR or Ritz for this)?

Also as a DP I have an existing trial membership set to expire in the next month (locked in at the $119 Visa Signature price) and when I called in I was told I can get the $79 price after giving them my delta Sky Miles number. I was then told I can use any card to pay for it so I gave them an AA mastercard. Pricing when I logged back online is still set at the $119 rate. I will call back in later this week when I have some time to figure out what the pricing will actually be.

hi! did you ever find out if the incidental travel credit reimburses the 79/99$ CLEAR membership? I would like to try it out with one of the AMEX cards that offer an annual 100$ travel credit, if they re-imbruse.
