Our Verdict
There was once a 60,000 + $50 bonus offer on the Delta gold card, this 50,000 + $50 offer comes around on a regular basis as well. The 60,000 mile offer on the Platinum is the highest we’ve seen it, but is also offered on a somewhat frequent bonus. Personally I’d probably wait for a higher bonus on the gold card, but Platinum seems to be high as it goes so maybe grab that one if you need some Delta miles (especially MQM). Any Delta purchase (including gift cards) has been working for the statement credit.
Before applying for this card, I’d recommend reading these 19 things you should know about American Express credit cards. That post should also answer any commonly ask questions people might have.
Hat tip to milecards on /r/churning
Anyone used the companion pass after the first year? Is it a PITA to use with a lot of restrictions etc?
I have used it, wasn’t a PITA. Though there are restrictions – only L, U, T, X, V classes of service, cannot use GCs with companion certificates, not eligible for upgrades even if you are elite medallion, only primary will earn miles, etc.
But still worth it for the more expensive flights.
Thanks for the reply. I have read a few places that the eligible tickets with the cert sometimes end up being more then buying 2 discount tickets. Were the ones you used still around the same price?
when i try applying the link says im not authorized to view this page
any body else getting this
So if I already have 4 issued Amex cards, there’s no way I’d be accepted since this card is issued directly from AMEX?
Only if all four of your Amex cards are credit cards rather than charge cards. Charge cards do not count against the Amex four card limit.
Does anyone know if the AF on the Delta Plat is refunded in a pro-rated way like the one on the regular Plat is?
Amex prorates all AF: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/annual-fee-refund-rules-for-each-card-issuer/#American_Express
I wouldn’t do it first year tho, good way to get a financial review.
Anyone know if buying a $5 (minimum) e gift card if the statement credit would trigger?
It should
I believe $50 is the smallest gift card you can purchase from Delta.
Ive had the Gold card before. I can get the bonus for the Platinum right?
Correct
yep, I currently have the gold card and contacted amex and they said that i’m still eligible as long as you don’t do the exact gold card product, you will be fine.
Bleh, I need the business versions of these…
Yeah, me too. I’m looking out for business cards forever…
