American Express are currently offering 20% back on Sam’s Club purchases (minimum of $100 spend and maximum of $1,250). Several readers have let me know that in the last couple of days they have seen this offer in accounts that were previously not targeted. I’d recommend seeing if you’re now targeted for this offer or not. If you are targeted, I’d recommend reading Chuck’s post on how to maximize this offer.
Several readers have also stated that recently they have been told that credit cards are not accepted for gift card purchases. This seems to be location/store specific and isn’t hardcoded, several readers have been able to purchase gift cards with credit without issue.

Good news/Bad news – LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE
Originally had the offer on an SPG for business. Used it on a large purchase over $1,250.00 and got the $250 credit without issue.
Last week got the offer on another card that did not previously have the offer: Simply Cash for Business.
Did not have another large purchase to make and as the deadline is in 2 weeks, wanted to lock in the $250 so I went for the giftcards.
Made 5 separate purchases in one day totaling over $1,250
Here’s my mistake: The terms note that purchases over $100 qualify. I missed/forgot this in store and separated a business and personal purchase and did not recognize that doing so would disqualify some of my purchases.
#1 Bought a variable load Vanilla MC for $504.94
#2 Bought a variable load Vanilla MC for $504.94
#3 Bought a Disney $150 (3x$50) GC and a CPK $50 GC for $189.58.
#4 Bought some post-its for $54.30
#5 Bought a slice of pizza and a pop for $2.64
Total of $1,256.40
But, only the purchases over $100 qualify, so my spend total was only $1,199.46, netting a credit of $239.89.
So, I left $10.11 on the table. No biggie, but I shouldn’t have made that simple mistake. Avoid duplicating it if you can.
Credit appeared on my account late in the day, 2 days after I made the purchases.
How do you plan to unload money from the vanilla MCs? You can’t get money order with them at Walmart, right?
I unload these at the Post office or Kroger stores for Money Orders.

I could only find one vanilla mc at Sam’s and it got declined at Kroger when trying to purchase a money order. Any ideas?
My nearby Kroger and post office both ask for ID when purchasing MO with debit. So this route won’t work for me. I am going to try Sam’s GC then Walmart Visa GC then MO at Walmart.
My store only carries the $200 vanilla visa by Bancorp and the $500 onevanilla reloaded mc. I thought you couldn’t register name in these cards. Will bluebird or other accept this as funding?

or have your friend add you as their other half? find out when friends membership ends, then u two can alternate being main or guest memberships! do this every year w/ the plus membership!
Just left Sam’s Club in my area. Was able to purchase a $500 VMCGC in store with my Amex Simply Cash card. The CSR had to run the MCGC through by itself and not with my food items, but was able to use CC for purchase. Didn’t try more than one per transaction or visit since it’s close enough that I can come back every couple of days until the end of the month.
I think you misunderstood the offer. The T&C states the offer is for ONE transaction.
There have been many DPs that multiple transactions in a SINGLE day counted as one transaction, but there’s no DP that transactions spread throught multiple days count. In fact, I highly doubt it’ll count.

Here’s kind of an odd semi-related DP: The offer showed up in my account for my newly opened simplycash plus card on the 30th of December. When I tried to add the offer however, the page would error out. When the page reloaded the offer had moved a few spots up in the amex offers. After doing this twice the sams offer reached the top. When I tried to add it a third time, after the page reloaded the offer had disappeared. I immediately chatted with customer service about the debacle and was reassured that the next time there was a Sam’s club offer I would find it in my account. No dice! In retrospect I should have taken a screen shot, but it didn’t even occur to me that it would disappear. My guess is it wasn’t supposed to be in my account in the first place. Anyone else experience this?
What are the steps to purchase MO at Walmart with MC GCs these days? Does Sam’s sell Visa GCs?
InComm VISA and MC GCs can’t be used at WMs to buy MO unless $49.99 or less ($49.99 or less is reportedly. WMs around me can’t use debit at all for all purchases).
All were MC GCs at my nearest Sam’s.
