Our Verdict
It doesn’t really look like there will be an easy way to game this, if it was possible to purchase gift cards or account credit then you’d be able to get enough to get a free ride but unfortunately this is not the case. I’m not a big fan of Uber, I love the concept but I hate the pricing (has always been more expensive than a regular taxi in my testing). I can understand why some people (usually those who aren’t extremely price sensitive) prefer this over a regular taxi but I’m not one of them.

Are you comparing UberX fares to taxi fare, so some other Uber service?? I have taken UberX rides in 8 US cities so far and ALL were cheaper than what the taxi fares would be, with some ~45% less like here in Boston.
If you’re using another Uber service, I can’t comment because I haven’t tried those. However, UberX is definitely cheaper.
