Amex Offers: $10 off $20 Almost Anywhere with Samsung Pay [Targeted]

The Offer

Amex has released an excellent targeted Amex Offer for Samsung Pay users.

  • Spend $20 on your Amex card with Samsung Pay (anywhere Samsung Pay is accepted) and get a $10 statement credit.

The Fine Print

  • Expires August 4, 2016
  • Must charge the entire $20 on a single in-store transaction

Terms:

Enrollment limited. Offer valid only for a qualifying purchase made with Samsung Pay on your Samsung mobile device. Offer valid at in-store merchant locations that accept the American Express® Card in the fifty United States, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands with point-of-sale terminals that process Samsung Pay transactions. If you cannot use Samsung Pay for the purchase for any reason, your purchase will not qualify for the offer. Please visit http://www.samsung.com/us/support…amsung-pay to see information about Samsung Pay eligible devices. You must enroll in the offer by adding the offer to your American Express Card and then selecting that Card when you make a qualifying purchase with Samsung Pay. Only US-issued American Express Cards are eligible for this offer. Limit 1 statement credit per American Express online account. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 8/4/2016, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase have been provided/shipped by merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer. POID: CAS2:0001

Our Verdict

Samsung Pay is accepted at most major retailers such as grocery stores, drugstores, and more. Everyone has to spend $20 somewhere so this is basically a free $10 offer.

I wonder if they are targeting those who already use Samsung Pay. I have one of my Amex cards enrolled in Apple Pay and I wasn’t targeted on any cards. Other mention getting it on all cards (my theory: those who already use Samsung Pay). And others have it on some cards (my theory: those who Amex doesn’t know if they have a Samsung phone). Let us know if this theory holds water (my guess: it probably won’t hold water completely).

The hassle here is that you have to save the offer on each card that has it (use the multi-tab trick for multiples), and you have to add each card to Samsung Pay too. Still, free money is free money.  🙂

Does it work with gift cards in the Samsung Pay app? I know they say in store but in theory it may work.

Got only on one card that had already been in Samsung Pay.
No other of my cards were in Samsung Pay. No offers on those.

I’ve used Samsung pay before but never added any AMEX cards on there. I got the offer on 2 out of 5 cards (Hilton and Blue Cash)
