The Offer
Here’s a targeted offer showing for some in their Amex logins:
- Get 10% back as a statement credit on U.S. gas station purchases
- Valid through September 30, 2016
- Max $250 in total purchases, $25 cashback
The Fine Print
- Excluding: online purchases and marina fuel or any type of commercial fuel (e.g.- jet fuel) purchases.
- For purposes of this offer, “gas station” means a merchant that is in the primary business of selling gasoline to consumers. Gas stations may sell other convenience items, but its primary business must be selling gasoline to consumers.
- The following are NOT considered gas stations: Superstores, supermarkets, and warehouse clubs that sell gasoline.
Our Verdict
10% off gas is quite generous, it’s typically hard to get more than 5% back from the credit card unless you get a great gift card deal. I haven’t found this one yet on my card (it’s highly targeted) but hopefully I’lll still see it on a few cards. I found it on a few cards of mine. It was always showing near the top of the offers, so if you don’t see it at the top you probably aren’t targeted.
If you find this offer on your Old Blue Cash you’ll 14.5% off gas with the offer and cash back combined, and if you find it on Blue Cash Preferred you’ll get 12.7% off combined.
Even more awesome is that if you got the BP $5 off $25 offer (also very targeted) on the same card as the 10% offer, you’ll get a whopping 30% off gas ($7.50 off $25) since both offers should stack. Not sure if anyone got both of these on the same card.

FYI, VONS Fuel Stations does not target the credit apparently. No problem with 76.
I received this offer on my Amex Green and already started using it. When I found it, I thought, “I only wish it wasn’t limited to a $250 max, I’m gonna blow right through that in SoCal.” Then I checked my Blue Sky and Delta Gold. SCORE! The offer is on all three! I don’t have a BP in my immediate area, so that one wouldn’t really apply.
On another note… There’s a Fleming’s Steakhouse offer for a $25 statement credit off a $100 or more. I just saw that it’s on multiple cards as well. If you’ve been to Fleming’s, you know it’s easy to reach $100 with a few cocktails and apps or at least $200 on dinner for 2. Split the bill, use both cards and score $50. I didn’t check all my cards before I took my guy out for his birthday dinner and only used one Amex $25 offer plus the 5% cash back on my Chase Freedom.
Lesson learned: ALWAYS check ALL of the offers. 🙂
2/7 and it stacks. My $30 fill-up got $3 off and $5 off.
Awesome!
Can you buy gift cards at a gas station and get the 10% back?
0/5. Did get a $15 off $100 spent at grocery stores on my PRG though.
1/4 in NorCal. Hey! I’ll take it. Thanks for posting this. I read this post on a road trip and hurried and added it before we headed home. Spent about $100 in gas on the way home and got emails from Amex on both transactions. Should be able to spend another $150 in gas over the next few months!
Ho hum. It’s not hard to get 8% off plus 2% or more in eBay bucks on gas gift cards. Many gas stations charge more per gallon when you use a credit card purchases than when you use a gift card
19 cards – no offers. Wait – not true – 2 offers for 2%. God hates me.
