saks fifth avenue

The Fine Print

  • Not valid at outlet locations (in-store and online).
  • Excludes restaurants located within the store, Online Bill Pay for Saks Credit and corporate gift cards.
  • Not valid on saks.com purchases shipped outside of the US. Valid at any participating location in the US and US Territories.
  • Enrollment Limited.

Our Verdict

Best current resale rates are 82.5% according to Giftcardwiki. According to the FM lab going through a portal doesn’t work for gift card purchases and they are specifically excluded on Topcashback and other portals, it still doesn’t hurt to try.

If you sold $350 in gift cards for the 82.5% rate you’d make ~$13.75 profit per card, plus whatever you’d normally earn in credit cards rewards points. I expect resale rates to drop and drop quickly, so keep that in mind. Others will be able to make a lot more profit due to higher bulk resale rates.

Good luck with this one. I managed to get 1 order submitted for a $300 and a $50 eGC. Every other order I’ve tried to place just doesn’t work. The website sends you through this weird loop that essentially won’t let you check out. I’ve tried in Chrome and Firefox. I’ve tried varying the combination of eGCs that I order (ex. $250 + $100 instead of $300 + $50 like my first order). For such a high end store, the website is absolute crap. If there is a workaround for this I’d love to hear it.

Side note, on the 1 order I did get to go through I haven’t received the eGC yet (I placed the order about 10am EST, today), though I did get the Amex offer confirmation email. It also is mandatory that you put in a phone number and it mentions that they may call you to verify the order. I haven’t received any phone calls yet though.

I wish this would work, but it’s seeming like a huge waste of time right now.

    • Nate says:

Add something to your cart (I added a dress) that allowed me to move forward in the checkout phase and I just removed the dress. Like you I ordered around 10 am and still waiting.

    • Tom says:

I ran into similar issues, and at least for me it seemed to be related to me using an affiliate link. I was trying to click through Chase before ordering, in case I could get bonus points, but every time I did so it wouldn’t let me checkout (it took me through a weird loop). Opening an incognito tab or clearing my cookies fixed it.

I tried several things including starting in incognito mode, but removing the affiliate link was the only thing that helped.

My 2 orders that I placed this morning haven’t come through yet either.

  2. Jibi says:

Be very careful when ordering. The Saks website has a MAJOR session bug. Be sure to verify your information – for eGC and physical GCs – when checking out. There have been MANY reports of orders showing customer AND billing information for other people. This bug has been around for at least 5 months.

  3. Alex says:

“Excludes restaurants located within the store, Online Bill Pay for Saks Credit and corporate gift cards.”

Can someone confirm they were successfully able to receive the statement credit by purchasing a gift card?

  4. Sean says:

Ordered a gift card around 10am EST. Still haven’t received anything. Contacted CS and they said it may take 24-48 for the ‘verification’ process to be completed. Terrible. Nike,on the other hand, sent my gift card in less than 5 minutes.

    • Bob says:

I’m in the exact same boat as you. Still waiting on the Saks GC’s. I got 3 of the Nike cards for my 3 AMEX. 2 of the GC’s were sent right away, the 3rd one didn’t arrive until 4 hours later.

  5. Ender says:

My DP is that if you buy saks GC in store you would get CB. A 8% CB is a pretty good top up. Be prepare for the suspicion when you want to pay with 10 CCs though.

  6. Jake N says:

Had some trouble on Chrome this morning around 11am. Decided to try again tonight at home, still had trouble on Chrome. Put through one order with a chat rep and then did 10 more on Safari.

Definitely experienced some weirdness getting things to appear in the cart, including what appears to have been someone else’s GCs.

    • Jake N says:

Chatted in this morning to inquire about order status, they said it was processing through their security team, who would be calling me within 48 hours. They called (602 number) and just confirmed that it was me who placed the orders and then I received the order confirmation emails.

    • Jake N says:

To close the loop on this, I was able to get the eGCs delivered to me about 24 hrs after I ordered, including a call from their security team and chatting in to ask them to push through the delivery.

I had no trouble on Raise, was able to sell 21/24 almost instantaneously upon listing (after their pending period ~12 hrs), and then the remaining 3 shortly after adjusting the price down a bit. Cashed out same day to a checking account.

      • Eric says:

What denominations did you list at?

        • Jake N says:

$150 and $200, 12 of each. the first 21 sold at 3% (I honestly think I may have been lucky enough to be one of the first to liquidate there), the remaining 3 at 5.5%. This was all on 4/19, all within a couple hours.

          • Eric says:

So you made almost a 10% return. Not bad at all.

I’m surprised people want to buy such high value cards.

  7. Zeeshan says:

Just purchased gcs totaling $350 (200+150). Received order confirmation but no email from AmEx about redeeming offer. They’ve previously been instantaneous, have others experienced delays?

  8. Jeff says:

double check and triple check your cart after you added the order for Saks. I saw multiple times I somehow had someone else’s order. This website is a disaster. And do not use Chrome.

  9. Sean says:

Has anyone received their giftcard(s) yet?

    • Nate says:

Gave up and cancelled my order today, this was a nightmare. Good luck to everyone else, they told me I needed to wait for a team to reach out to confirm my order which could take up to 48 hours.

      • Sean says:

Makes very little sense how they go about processing gift card orders. It shouldn’t take this long and I honestly wouldn’t bother if I weren’t trying to hit min spend on my SPG Biz.

By the time they process, the rates might fall.

  10. Sheri says:

I just got a call from Saks confirming my order. CSR said I would receive my egift card in an hour.

    • Sean says:

Received a call around the same time. Nothing in my inbox yet. Online order status now showing processed.

      • Jake N says:

I chatted them again a few hours after the security call and gave all my order #s. The agent said she’d manually push them through, and I should receive them all within an hour (received 2/12 so far).

  11. Beans says:

If they’re calling people I can’t do this then. Currently in an area where I won’t have phone service for a long while.

  12. Beth says:

After reading comments here I decided to try an order of physical gift cards using free shipping via shoprunner (have shoprunner from one or another credit card, can’t recall which right now). There were zero problems with the browser (used IE since ya’ll said to avoid Chrome) and the orders processed quickly, got immediate confirmation email from AMEx about using the offers and shotly thereafter confirmation my order is “on its way”. Granted I’ll have be waiting a few days before I get the cards but this was painless compared to what you guys are experiencing.

    • Sean says:

I might do the same with the offers on my other cards. I chatted 2 hours ago. Said they would resend in the next hour. Nada.

  13. CJ says:

I ordered e-gift cards on Monday April 17, 2017 for April 18, 2017 delivery. I did have issues ordering the e-gift cards while checking out. I used chrome. As a workaround, I added the gift cards in the cart while double/triple checking the information. Then I closed the tab. I reopened the new tab, visited the website, clicked on “Saks Bag” option (which showed the 2 items previously added) and clicked on “View my Bag & checkout”. This showed the payment option screen. Today (April 18, 2017) I received emails stating my order is being processed. I contacted the support (via chat) regarding the gift cards being not received. As Jake mentioned above, they manually pushed the order. I have received all my e-gift cards as of now (6 in total).

  14. Sean says:

    Update with chat rep:

Txxxx Wilxxx: Thank you for holding! I have connected with management and was informed there is a system issue with the E-gift cards being sent at this time. Out IT team is aware of this matter and is working to have this issue corrected as soon as possible. Once I have been updated I can contact you via email. I am so very sorry for the inconvenience.

Sean : Is there an estimated time when this will be resolved?

Txxxx Wilxxx: Unfortunately, we have not been provided with a resolution time at the moment.

  15. Sean says:

This has turned into a major crap storm for me:

Saks Rep:: I do apologize to inform you that your order did not process successfully of the e-gift cards.
Saks Rep: They will not be delivered. Your order did not process through saks.com system successfully due to saks.com encountered a system error.

Sean : I received a call yesterday to confirm i had placed the order and was told everything was fine and the order was processed.
Sean : Why am I being told this now? And why did I have to contact you guys to hear this when I’ve been waiting this whole time.

Saks Rep: This is definitely an error on our end and we genuinely apologize about that
Saks Rep: As of right now we are diligently working to have this fixed so that customers will receive notification in the further if this problem occurs.

Please update this post Will that there are big issues with this offer and everyone should proceed with caution or maybe purchase the physical gift card instead. IDK

    • Tom says:

I was told the same thing via chat. The second agent I spoke to said it would be delivered tonight, so I don’t know what to believe.

  16. Sean says:

Btw, does anyone know if I will be able to use this Amex Offer again now that the pending charge will be returned. Amex already marked it as a redeemed offer.

or am I out of luck?

  17. secstate says:

Same problem as others with my one and only egift order. Also place one order for physical cards on 4/17 and received today. They were good when I got them but were zeroed out by this evening. Been trying to get through to Saks for 20 minutes and counting (higher than normal call volume so it says). Total pain in the back side.

  18. Sean says:

Wait… so the cards you received went from full value to no value?

That would cause major issues with reselling and could cause you to be blacklisted. Wow.

This offer is too good to be true. I would stay far away until they get there act together.

    • anne says:

Last December when Amex had the similar offer when you spend $450 at Saks and get $100 credit. I placed 4 different $450 GC orders between my cards and my husband’s cards. Since they did not have a single $450 at that time, I had to buy $200 and $250 cards. All four orders had problem when the $200 cards were not activated. Called them multiple times and got them fixed for three orders during Christmas time. One $200 card never got fixed and I also realized that they did not charge my credit cards for all four orders. I decided to go to the Sak store to buy $450 GCs on those four credit cards to make sure that the charge would come through so I could take advantage of the offer. I was expecting them to charge my credit cards later for the previous online orders and I jjust kept checking my cards. I sold all GCs to cardpool and last month I got chargeback from Cardpool for the four $450 GCs that I bought instore because the card balances are zero. Yep Saks decided to drain the card balances that were legitimately bought instore. Why don’t they just charge my credit cards for the orders that did not go through online? It was not my fault when their system was completely messed up.

      • Sean says:

Wow. So this is an ongoing issue they have with their gift card processing system. That really sucks what happened to you.

I took heed and cancelled my 2nd order I placed. The little I was getting out of this deal is not worth the headache.

  19. sheri says:

Finally received the eGC’s. Listed them on Raise today and they sold in a few minutes. I am a little nervous though after reading that people have had trouble with raise, months after a sell.
I have 2 more (physical) gift cards coming. Is there a more reliable platform to resell these?
I bit off a little too much bonus spend with 2 SPG biz cards and was looking for an easy spend. Not going this route again. What a pain.

    • Eric says:

Where did you read about the trouble with Raise?

      • Sheri says:

I will have To go back and try and find the post. Since I placed the Saks GC orders, I have been reading several forums. I am a bit of a newbie with MS options, so I was reading everything I could find. My typical sources are Doc, Reddit and flyertalk though.

  20. olivia says:

I purcahsed a 200 and 150 gc to total 350. I’m actually planning on using the gift cards. But my question is did you guys get a response from AMEX that your offer was redeemed via email? Usually those notifications come fast, but I have not seen it come through.

  21. Robby says:

I bought physical gift cards and sold them to CardPool. After receiving them, CardPool promptly told me they decided to reject the purchase and return my cards. Seems a little shady. Maybe they figured out they bought too many or something? I did verify the gift card values before I sent them in. Quoting from their email “we’re not able to disclose any further specifics regarding this process”. Anyone else dealt with this before?

  22. JP says:

    Will & Chuck

There are reports of people not getting congrats email and thus no credit. Possible that Amex silently started enforcing one offer per cardholder rule that they never enforced but was always in fine print. Hopefully I am wrong but it’s definitely concerning

    • Chuck says:

I wouldn’t be concerned unless a week has already gone by from when the charges post. That email doesn’t always come.

    • anne says:

I can second my personal experience regarding the issue “no email no credit”. We did the Carrabba Italian Grill with 6 of my husband cards last week. Only three cards got the email confirmation and those were the three that got credit. I myself just did another offer with Puritan Pride and I did not get the email either. Note that I did with only for the Puritan offer.

    • Yeah, will have to wait and see.

      • Ben says:

I’ve previously had Amex offer credits not post. In one case (Verizon), a chat rep started the process of manually giving me the credit. And they started that process just one week after the charge posted. In another case (Carrabbas), the chat rep said I had to wait the entire 90 day period before they would open an investigation/manually credit it. I did eventually get it done, but it was a PIA to have to remember to do that after 3 months.

Now, my policy is that I won’t do any GC reselling utilizing Amex offers if I’m a) going to cancel that Amex within the next 3 months or b) don’t want to float whatever the cost of the Amex offer is.

    • Daniel says:

This has been the biggest pain in the neck Amex Offer. The Saks website is awful and a huge security risk, but I finally got two different order to go through. Took two days to receive eGC on the first order and six days on the second including multiple calls to Saks. I didn’t receive Amex emails on either purchase and today Amex told me via chat that while the charges have posted they have not been claimed by the merchant yet (whatever that means) and to contact the merchant and have them claim the transaction.
