The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Avianca’s LifeMiles loyalty program is offering a 25% transfer bonus from some hotel partners. Below is a list of the eligible programs and their standard transfer rate:
    • Marriott (10,000:1,500 – 140,000:35,000)
    • IHG (10,000:2,000)
    • Hilton (10,000:1,000)
    • Le Club Accor Hotels (4,000:2,000)
    • SPG (1:1)
    • Wyndham (6,000:1,200 – 30,000:6,000)

The Fine Print

  • Valid April 2nd to May 6th, 2018
  • Some participating partners grant additional bonuses. These bonuses are added to the bonus of 25% granted by LifeMiles and is calculated on the LifeMiles received in the transfer to the member’s account.

Our Verdict

There are only two programs that are of any interest for this program and they are:

  • Marriott due to the flight + hotel packages
  • SPG due to the 1:1 transfer rate and 5,000 bonus miles per 20,000 transfer

Let’s look at the Marriott deal first. LifeMiles isn’t actually one of the better transfer partners as it falls under package two and this awards a maximum of 85,000 miles (compared to 120,000 or 132,000 with United). After the 25% transfer bonus you’d earn up with a maximum of 106,250 (still well short of the 120,000 you’d get with other partners).

If you transfer from SPG the transfer rate is 1:1, after the transfer bonus it becomes 1:1.25. Keep in mind that if you transfer 20,000 points you get 5,000 miles as a bonus. The fine print says “These bonuses are added to the bonus of 25% granted by LifeMiles and is calculated on the LifeMiles received in the transfer to the member’s account.” to me this indicates you get the 25% bonus on top of the 5,000 bonus (as those 5,000 miles are received in the transfer to your account). That means if you transfer 20,000 SPG points you’d receive a total of 31,250 Avianca LifeMiles (transfer rate of 1:1.5625).

Personally I’d prefer the SPG points over the LifeMiles, but that’s a personal decision. If you’re going to transfer points via this promotion then please let us know in the comments below why.

How long do transfers from SPG take?

I think both Marriott and SPG are great options. SPG is no doubt better. However just about whatever you can get out of Avianca you can get out of United in terms of star alliance. So the 132k beats 106k easily. Wouldn’t mind other opinions on this matter

I would disagree with this… United award search engine is much better, plus it can be customized. If all else fails the agents sometimes still can help.
LifeMiles search engine is terrible and agents are clueless.
Also LM seems to have access to only a subset of LH F seats.

I need 78k lifemiles for a redemption. Was planning on transferring thank you points at 1:1. Debating if I should transfer SPG points instead.

Might transfer to top off from the Vuela card and book Star Alliance to Europe or Asia
