Our Verdict
There are only two programs worth considering transferring from:
- SPG. This offers a 1:1 transfer rate, you also get an additional 5,000 miles for every 20,000 points you transfer. The 35% bonus then applies to the 25,000 miles so for every 20,000 SPG points you’ll get a total of 33,750 Avios (1:1.69 rate)
- Marriott Points + Travel Package. British Airways falls under Package 1, meaning for 270,000 Marriott points you normally get a category 1-5 7 night package and 120,000 Avios. With this bonus you’d get 162,000 Avios.
They have offered this same 35% transfer bonus in the past. Personally I think SPG & Marriott points are too valuable at the moment to consider this, but if you need Avios this could be a good option. Let me know if you plan on transferring in the comments below.
Hat tip to Frequent Flyer Bonuses
William, is this 35% bonus an annual thing or less regular than that? Would like to be ready for the next time it comes around, IF it does.
No idea sorry, I think it’s comes around somewhat frequently.
Agree that spg are more valuable. I might do this just cuz I have a grip of Membership rewards points and only 2 weeks vacation out of thev year and usually end up spending one of those weeks in Hawaii and the other in Mexico.
William, do you think SPG points are too valuable for the BA Marriott travel package? If so, why?
Thanks!
I do, because you can get a lot of free nights at SPG properties for 90k points and that value outweighs the BA points and the crappy Marriott hotels. That being said, I have a lot of airline miles because I don’t fly premium cabins.
Wouldn’t it be possible churn on this?
Marriott Package 270k > 162k Avios > 162*1.69=~ 274k SPG > 3*274 Marriott ??!
How you converting Avios to SPG?
It’s not a 2 way door, and Avios don’t transfer to other ccy.
