The Offer

- Purchase $300 in Visa gift cards from a Staples store and receive a $20 rebate card via Staples Easy Rebate.
The Fine Print
- Valid 6/21-6/27
- In-store only
- Limit one rebate per household
Our Verdict
This deal is from the better ones since:
- it’s triggered by a Visa gift card purchase and not a MasterCard or Amex which is harder to liquidate
- the rebate comes in Visa rebate form and not in Staples gift card form
Remember, however, that Staples rebate cards don’t seem to work with Serve or even with REDbird. Also, there have been mentions of people having trouble getting the rebates, although reaching out to the rebate team should easily take care of the problem.
The main value in these deals is for someone who has a credit card which earns bonus rewards at an office supply store (which is getting tougher to get). If you purchase two $200 Visa gift cards and pay the $6.95 activation fees, you’ll still end up ~$6 ahead after unloading the Visa cards. AND you’ll net over 2,000 INK points along the way. Nice.

That doesn’t apply to this deal, right? We’re getting $20 VGCs
No, it’s a $20 rebate card, which functions like a Visa gift card but can’t be used with a PIN (AFAIK).
Warning: just purchased an hour ago, and the Easy Rebate Form didn’t print out after the receipt. Bought 2 x $200 VGCs. Have to do it snail mail now.
Same here. I’ve never done an easy rebate so I am really confused since I thought they were supposed to print out. I have to do snail mail now?
I had same issue on 2nd attempt today. 1st time I got the rebate recipt.
Was it your 2nd attempt too? If yes, Did you use the same cc both times? Which cc?
1st attempt w Amex GC. But the register/process did work in an odd fashion.
I worry a bit about what you mean by second attempt; it’s one per household.
@harvson3 – there are those among us who have multiple households. 😉
IME, even without the rebate form as long as I see the barcode in one of the receipts with 17 digits below it and that is what I enter after clicking I purchase in-store. It pre fills all my info with my email addy and I hit submit. I save a copy of the confirmation on paint.
That worked. Thanks for saving me a stamp.
@Russ: gotcha; carry on
Anyone else been having problems with these? Two times in a row, I’ve received a postcard from Staples saying I didn’t submit things properly, with no particular reference to the gift card deal. First time I called in the guy said they knew about the problem and he resubmitted it for me, yesterday (must be for the AmEx gift card promotion) when I called the guy he was clueless and told me to go to the store.
Is it possible to combine this with the Cashstar offer going on at the moment? As in, purchase one Visa $200 gift card with the $200 of Cashstar eGiftcards, use the $40 bonus for whatever, and purchase another Visa $200 gift card with whatever credit card?
How long does it typically take to get the easy rebate card? I submited one from the last time they had this sale and still haven’t received it yet.
It takes about 6-8 weeks. I did 4 last time and put a reminder on my calendar and got all of them.
I had already got my hands on this deal last time .. i think on May last week this year… am i eligible for this deal again?
Yes
