Our Verdict
Not a bad deal as there is no monthly fee or hard pull to worry about. It’s only a $100 bonus though and direct deposit is required so it’s not the world’s greatest deal. Could still be interesting for those in the targeted area though. We’ve added it our best bank bonuses.

Hello!
I am so sorry for the late response.
When opening a checking account, there will be a hard pull on your credit report.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you!

If anybody actually gets a hard pull, let us know. Reps arent’ always the most reliable.
I signed up online for this account earlier this week. It was not immediately approved online, and I was instead asked to bring a photo ID and proof of address to one of their local branches. When I got to the local branch, they asked about me being a former customer (I had an account for ~2 years that was closed over 2 years ago). I’m pretty sure that because I was a former customer, there was something in their system required an in-bank visit.
While in the bank, the representative asked me to fund the account while I was there. She claimed that the credit card information I had filled out online would not work any longer. Of course, I tried to do $500 in credit card funding from my Chase Sapphire Preferred that has a $100 cash advance limit. It got denied in-person. I told her I didn’t have any way to fund the account in-person at the moment and asked if she could try the information I had input online. She decided that this time she could try and even made a comment about it being the same card. However, the transaction went through and I went on my way. That was on 4/20. I’m now waiting to ensure that the $500 posts correctly to the credit card as a purchase (as opposed to cash advance). However, I did notice that it currently shows up as three transactions: $5 application fee, $25 savings funding, and $470 checking funding (for a total of $500). I’m hoping there’s no issues with Chase considering it a credit card purchase.
I’m still deciding if it is going to be worthwhile for my wife to open an account for the $100…
Promo has been extended to 5/12/17

Thanks 🙂
I went into the branch and spoke with the Branch Mgr. I was told it is a “hard” pull. Also, he said the Direct Deposits must be payroll-type deposit (can’t be ACH transfer from another bank/CU). I decided to pass on this one.
Vic didn’t get a hard pull, so you should be OK.
Yes, I can confirm NO hard pull was done (checked 2 weeks after account opening.)
Also Will, a clarification:
The $5 fee is for joining the CU membership, not for credit card funding

Updated post, thanks Vic!
I applied and was approved.
– Didn’t see any hard pull
– Can CC fund up to $500 (including $5 fee, so you can only enter up to $495)
Vic, you located in the “eligible region”?
Yes I am. I live in one of the county that’s eligible.
i just got approved with $500 CC funding. any DP on DD? thanks.
Also inquired with Sacramento Credit Union regarding the “soft or hard inquiry” question. Will report back when they respond.
Thanks
A banker from Sacramento Credit Union just called and said she’s pretty sure it’s a soft pull; She also confirmed that the bonus is only eligible for people in certain counties/regions near Sacramento (the ones you had listed). Wasn’t able to get details on funding options 🙁
I live in Solano County. I sent an email and I’m hoping they’re able to provide some answers. I’m not willing to be the guinea pig on a $100 bank bonus when we don’t know if they do a hard pull. Will update if they respond.
Thanks for inquiring and offering to be the guinea pig for everyone! Please keep us posted.
Thanks
