As a part of this parnership Quicksilver card members will receive 20% off all Uber purchases via a credit card statement. This means card members will receive 1.5% cashback via their Quicksilver card purchases in addition to 20% off Uber fares which is a great discount for any cardholder (Uber and Capital One)

The Verdict

We have seen Uber make several partnerships with major card companies, before (American Express Membership Rewards and Starwood). But a 21%+ discount is a great deal for anyone who uses Uber on a frequent basis.  I personally would never sign up for the Quicksilver card directly (no signup bonus and only 1.5x cash back), but if I had another Capital One credit card that I applied for with a sign up bonus lying around in a sock drawer, I would definitely weigh product changing to the Quicksilver card for this discount for the next year.

Another thing to keep in mind is there are some advantages to having and applying for a Capital One card as mentioned here and in our newsletter.

It looks like it’s just an offer for two free rides but no 20% off.

Thanks for the post. Just called capital one to upgrade my Platinum to Quicksilver One. Worked so smoothly that I am even a little surprised because I never used my Platinum even once XD. Will certainly use it more with the Uber benefit!

Wow. I spend probably around $4K per year on Uber. I guess I have to think about whether saving $800 is worth the three credit pulls. If it were permanent instead of a one-year thing I’d do it for sure.

You don’t have any other Capital One cards you can product change from? I wonder how quickly you can product change, might be worth getting the venture 40k offer and then doing a PC to the quicksilver. Or you could just do two apps in one day and they should combine.

Yeah unfortunately no existing Cap One cards. I suppose it could be worth trying to get the Venture and the Quicksilver in one go.

“but if I had another Capital One credit card that I applied for with a sign up bonus lying around in a sock drawer”

Exactly what I did; had a VentureOne that I keep as I’ve had it for 15 years so I just called and had it moved to QuickSilver. No hard pull, same credit line, I asked if I should wait for the Uber promo to apply to the VentureOne and she said most likely it will just be for the QuickSilver.

Awesome, congrats Edward on the nice addition to your wallet. And thank you for the positive data point. Enjoy those discounted Uber rides. Let us know if it works on gift cards. My guess is yes.
