CardCash: Get An Extra 5% Off All Giftcards + 5% With Ink

Warning: A lot of readers have horrific experiences with Cardcash, I’d recommend reading through old posts to see some of them. If you’re making a purchase, make sure you use the card within 45 days otherwise you have no buyer protection. You can also use the e-mail doc@cardcash.com to hopefully get better than normal customer support.

The Offer

  • Cardcash are offering 5% off sitewide with coupon code: HIGHFIVE

cardcash 5

The Fine Print

  • Maximum of $3,000 per customer

Our Verdict

Cardcash earns 5% with Chase Ink cards again when you use Paypal to checkout. As far as I know no portals offer anything back on Cardcash purchases. As always, make sure you do your due diligence on card cash, I’m sure readers will share their horror stories in the comments. I personally think they have improved over the last six to twelve months but obviously still have major issues.

Thanks for all the great feedback on purchasing from CardCash! Has anyone had issues selling to this company? I’m trying to meet a bank direct deposit requirement and would like to re-sell several hundred dollars worth of gift cards to CardCash so they direct deposit into this new bank account.

I have never had an issue getting a refund (always within 45 days). It just sucks that it happens so often. They do not verify the card balance before sending you the card. Ity’s Crazy. They must make so much money that they don’t mind issuing refunds without question.. I reguarly buy from them. I have had a good streak on my past 20 or so purchases.

Bought eleven Hyatt GC’s (figured to spread out the risk among multiple $100 GCs and expect some issues) and two were DOA. I just emailed the doc address for the two that were bad. Will update on how quickly they respond and credit for the two bad cards. Will also keep you guys abreast of the remaining nine cards (that will all be used within the 45 days) and report how many go bad in the interim. I plan to use some at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek in two weekends and the rest in Florida over Memorial Day week. I’m expecting two more to get hit, but we will see. More importantly, we’ll see how the [email protected] responds to my requests.

Update: I used the email provided by Doctorofcredit to request a refund for the two DOA cards. I sent the email this AM at 7:10 PST. Cardcash acknowledged my email request to them at 9:03 AM. I then received an email from PayPal at 10:46 with the refund for the two DOA cards. So, overall, using the doc email seems to have speeded up the process, given my past experience with CardCash. To go from request, to refund credited within about three and a half hours is pretty good, in my opinion.
Will update on if the cards stay good till redemption. Fingers crossed they do. But, overall, it appears that CardCash has stepped up their refunds, at least with the DOC email.

Did you order physical or e-gift cards? if e-gift could you explain how you checked the balance since it didn’t seem to include a PIN and asked for original email/phone number.

I ordered e-gift cards. You can also call the Hyatt gift card line and they will give you the balances over the phone.

True, all 3rd party gift cards are subject to fraud. But it seems that CardCash has a much higher fraud rate than other so there must be something lacking in their security procedures, and their 45-day warranty is weak and adhered to strictly. And their attitude as a company is that you the consumer should bear the brunt of the risk. An excerpt from their message in which they told me to pound sand for my zero balance card: “Buying from any Marketplace involves the classical Risk vs Reward decision. Consumers shopping on a marketplace can save up to 35% but will at times receive cards that are invalid or have a balance discrepancy. This is not something we can control.” While strictly speaking this may be true (though I do think they can control it better and offer a longer warranty), it shows their company philosophy and attitude and is a good reason to avoid them.

Any company selling gift cards previously purchased by someone else are subject to issues. I’ve bought GC from Raise and they were at $0 after I received them. One of the issues not discussed is credit card fraud. Example, Raise purchased a GC from some 3rd party as they do, resold it to me. Unbeknownst to Raise the GC was purchased with a stolen credit card. The restaurant was informed by the CC company but only after Raise purchased it. Restaurant proceeded to remove balance from the GC, not the fraudster. Confirmed this with the merchant. Raise has a good refund policy. Just mentioning this because it’s not always the fault of the GC resale company.

Certainly true but I think the rate of problems with cardcash is the real issue and it seems obvious that it’s much too high. I’ve purchased over 10k from Raise and haven’t had a single problem with a card. Placed my first order today with cardcash and had 3 of the cards have problems. And I understand it’s not always the resale company but two of the problems I had were invalid card number and a card without a pin#. That tells me that cardcash didn’t verify the amounts on the cards. Something that isn’t foolproof but would help significantly. I wonder how many more issues there would have been if I hadn’t purchased evouchers to use immediately online? Now I’m sure they will make it right but the hassle involved is not necessary as often as it seems to happen with them.

stay away. This company is poison. Don’t deal with them. I lost money. It’s not worth it.

No they do these 5% off sales fairly regularly- and I used to buy every time they did. Then I got burned on a card around day 50 and their answer was the same as to others- FOAD. I will never buy for them again unless I have no other option and plan to use the card immediately.

You’re right…I remember now. I used to buy on the 5% days back when I had an ounce of trust in them. I also only buy from them when using immediately after getting burned.

5% sitewide is a pretty “generous” deal…maybe they’re trying to rake in a bit of cash before the ship sinks.

I used them for a while without issues, then I ordered a $50 Panera e-card that only had $6 on it when I tried to use it. They promptly refunded me, but only for the “price” of the missing balance. Never again.
