Cardpool and their Portal Tracking Woes

We’ve written before about how you can get an additional 4% cashback when reselling gift cards to Cardpool by going through the Topcashback portal. The BeFrugal portal is now offering the same rate and other portals are offering various lower amounts.

Many readers have noted that their Cardpool transactions aren’t tracking at all. The problem is compounded by an anomalous rule that the portals don’t accept claims for missing cashback from Cardpool.

Cardpool does have a limit of $1000 in transactions which are eligible for cashback, combined between your buy and sell transactions.

It’s important to note: The terms of many portals indicate that the $1000 limit is based off the total  transactions in your Cardpool account, not the amount of transactions which you actually earned cashback. [The terms in the Topcashback portal do not sound this way, a point which is largely irrelevant since they don’t accept missing cashback claims.]

There are reports of the portal not tracking even within the initial $1000 of transactions on the Cardpool account, indicating that there are tracking issues here. In the past, I’ve had mixed success with the cashback tracking (I even got slightly cashback on slightly more than $1000 in transactions), but this is a while back; more recently, it seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

Bottom Line: Transactions used to track properly; however, more recently it seems the tracking rarely works. Don’t sell to Cardpool based on the portal payout, even if you are within your first $1000 and are entirely eligible for the cashback.

Cardpool remains a good option for selling gift cards, but the added portal benefit is no longer a serious part of the equation.

Other Miscellaneous Points

  • ShopAtHome offers 2% on Cardpool sales and they don’t seem to mention the rule of not being able to submit a missing cashback claim. (Some other smaller portals as well.) If you are indeed within your first $1000 of transactions, consider going through the ShopAtHome portal in the hopes that you’ll be able to get the cashback after making the claim.
  • The BeFrugal portal notes: “cash back for gift card sales will appear as $0.00 initially until transaction verified by Cardpool”. If you see “$0.00”, don’t give up hope so fast.
  • Cashback is paid out based on the face value of the gift card.
  • Topcashback says that 99.88% are satisfied with their Cardpool transactions done through the portal, a dubious claim which has me wondering about these stats across the entire Topcashback site.

TCB got back to me today on this issue. They noticed that many sales have not been tracking properly (which we all knew). She said they have removed the offer from their site. Now it only shows purchases from Cardpool. Although this doesn’t help any of us that missed out on cash back I am glad they at least listened to my concerns.

Same here. Transaction tracked and even changed to green (payable), but even though there is a transaction amount, the cashback amount is $0 (not crossed out like when the transaction is not eligible). I’m for sure well below 1,000 and also verified that in the transaction history on cardpool.

It seems their system is now flagging all transaction at being above $1,000 and hence not eligible?
Could be a system error or some bigger issue. Their USPS labels is down for maintenance for weeks now, always stating to check back tomorrow.

I also sold a GC recently, never tracked. I just wrote it off since it was a small amount, but interesting to know it’s a widespread problem. Other than this issue, I’ve always been completely satisfied with TCB.

I’ve noticed that none of my Sales to Cardpool post, however cashback from my Purchases do. Like many other people, TopCashback DOES track my sale, stating I did sell $XX amount, but the payout has “cleared” as $0.00.

Even odder, The purchases, combined with the sales, are technically over $1000, but since the Sales never payout, I have been receiving cashback from purchases (since my total purchases are under $1000).

I think the 99.88% has to be bull myself. I have only given them 1 star and noted that I think the Cardpool/Topcashback partnership is a scam based on my own non tracking orders.

Funny how they are capable of tracking the exact amounts of the cards I sent, but can’t manage to follow through. If you don’t want upset customers why do business with an affiliate program that isn’t paying off. TopCashback can’t hide behind Cardpool’s inability to track correctly as they are public face that we deal with first.

I am not sure if TCB or Cardpool is at fault here. My recent sales initially track fine and show up in my TCB account as pending (orange dot) @ $0.00, which is the way it’s supposed to work.

But then a few weeks later they are updated with “This transaction has progressed to payable status at 0.00. This usually means that the merchant has marked this transaction as being ineligible for cashback. ” This suggests Cardpool is at fault. Of course, if you try to contact Cardpool, they say there is nothing they can do about it.

In any event, you have to assume you will not get the 4% on sales to Cardpool 🙁

Ebates and Befrugal have been best in this category. Topcashback just had lot of issues tracking transactions and were not very helpful. For this very reason, I have moved on from TCB entirely and will sacrifice their high rate for better customer service.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting BeFrugal.

I was reviewing our order reports with Cardpool and they have yet to credit any of the “selling” purchases made in June. Looking further into their terms it looks as though it may take up to 30 days for the cash back credit to post. This being so, I would wait at least a month from the selling date for the cash back to report to your member account. If over a month passes, please notify BeFrugal and we will look further into the matter.

Happy to help,

Ariana from BeFrugal.com
