Update: It has now launched, you can view our review here.
Chase will launch a new website called ‘Credit Journey’ that will provide users with a free Vantage Score 3.0 score based on their TransUnion credit report and other credit tools. The website will be available to everybody (e.g not necessary to be a Chase cardholder).
Capital One offer a similar service called Credit Tracker & Discover offer Credit Score Card, although the Discover service provides users with a free FICO score – a score that is more commonly used by lenders. Other card issuers also offer free FICO scores, but only to cardholders.
I don’t think the new offering by Chase will be particularly useful, considering Credit Karma offers the same/similar data but for TransUnion & Equifax and other free credit monitoring websites also exist, such as:
- Quizzle (Equifax)
- Credit Sesame (TransUnion)
- Credit.com (Experian)
- WisePiggy (TransUnion)
- Freecreditscore.com (Experian)
I’ll wait until the service officially launches before I discount it completely though. Maybe it will offering some way to bypass 5/24 (a boy can dream, right?)
Alliant Credit Union is using Vantage Score 3.0 score for registered user.
I signed up for Quizzle since articles said they use Equifax, but they switched to Transunion at some point
What they should be doing is offering the FICO score to all card holders and not just Chase Slate.
Chase uses neither Vantage nor TU, making this clearly a data gathering tool for them.
I think it’s more a marketing angle, they want to be able to sell non cardholders Chase cards and other products.
Chase to provide services based on TU? But they almost never pull TU 🙂
(At least in my state)
TU provides the cheapest data
Chase ALWAYS pulls TU for me (Michigan).
I got excited for a moment thinking they will give a FICO score. TU VS has no value because of CK and so many other services offering it.
Yeah, I was expecting FICO when I first heard about it, but no 🙁
