Our Verdict
Update: As Miles to Memories has kindly pointed out this offer does not contain a free category 1-4 night upon approval. This means the below offers are even better in comparison than first though.
There are two other offers that this card currently has available:
- Chase Marriott Premier 70,000 Point Offer After $2,000 Spend Is Back (Annual Fee Is Waived)
- Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card – $100 Statement Credit + 40,000 Points After First Purchase
You’d need to value Marriott points at over 0.85¢ each for this 80,000 point offer to be better than the 70,000 point offer with the annual fee waived. I don’t get anywhere near that value from Marriott points, but maybe you do? If you value them at 0.34¢ or less then you’ll be best off with the $100 statement credit offer.
80,000 points is the highest bonus that has ever been offered on this card. It’s also worth remembering that Marriott free night certificates are now valid for one year, rather than just six months.
Hat tip to slick deals
We called Marriott Rewards to see if we would be eligible for the bonus points. We had just the Marriott Rewards Visa where you got 3x the points (since 2012). We wanted the Marriott Rewards Premiere Visa for 5x the points, no international fees and the 80,000 bonus points. I was told they were 2 different cards so yes we were eligible. We applied and spent over the $3,000 required in the 3 months to get the 80,000 bonus points. Now we have no bonus points so we called and they say we aren’t eligible for the bonus points because we already had the other card. Nowhere in the offer does it state that you must not have ANY Marriott Rewards Visa. It just says “this” credit card……. So how do they get away with not giving the bonus points?
Contact CFPB, state what you told me and they will investigate on your behalf.
it looks like the 70k + 1 night free cert + AF waived offer has expired. dangit, although that comes around often right? hope this 80k with no free nights & AF isnt the new normal. I’ll skip this for now.
I just applied today for 50k and $1k spend before I saw this! After I receive my card, should I message Chase and see if they will match this offer for me? Any one have luck doing that before? I’m so bummed that I missed it.
Yeah, Chase is usually pretty good at matching offers.
I can’t find any word on the landing page saying there is a cat 1-4 free night for opening the card.
You’re right, I’ve fixed this now. Sorry about that, means it’s an even worse deal than the 70k offer.
Couldn’t we do the same trick used on the RItz for this? Once we meet the spending reduce the CL to have the AF automatically refunded?
They won’t let you have a credit card with a limit that low. Try not to talk about the newsletter posts on the blog as well, please!
