Citi To Open Gold Service Center In NYC + Will Offer A Competitor To AmEx Offers

Gold Service Center

Two pieces of Citi news, firstly Citi is planning to a Citi Gold Service center in downtown Manhattan, one Flyertalk user received the following e-mail:

It’s more than a bank, it’s a destination.

Experience an innovative luxury space when you visit the first U.S. Citigold Client Center, conveniently located in midtown Manhattan at the NEW 5th Ave. and 52nd St. location. Here, you can meet with Citigold Relationship Managers and financial professionals in a private and professional setting.

At the Citigold Client Center, you’ll also enjoy:

  • Unique access to special, scheduled, curated events reserved for Citigold clients.*
  • Exclusive functions with professionals in a variety of fields from finance to entertainment.*
  • Space and luxury in the Citigold lounge. Relax with a fresh-brewed cup of coffee, while recharging both your mind and your devices.

*Some events are private and subject to invitation.

This is definitely an attempt to drive high networth individuals into a physical location so that Citi can manage more of their money. I imagine they’ll have some functions to try and entice people in, because frankly a free charging station and coffee isn’t going to cut it. You’ll likely need to have a lot of funds in your account to be invited to these events though and given the extremely low interest rates they offer it’s highly unlikely it’ll be worth it.

Citi Offers

According to Out & Out Citi is planning on offering something similar to AmEx sync offers. When updating the app he was told new “Citi Offers” on eligible cards will be coming soon. I’d expect this to launch before the end of September, but that could be delayed depending on how many merchants sign up. It’ll be interesting to see how profitable these offers are and if they are highly targeted based on spending patterns or available to all cardholders.

I had “Offers for you” link showed up till yesterday for my citi simplicity card when viewing from the app.. Surprisingly, it is not showing up anymore.. Seems Citi updated the app again and backed off the offers for you from the app for now.

No evidence Citibank will be competing with Amex. Wishful thinking really. More likely they’ll be competing with another bank presence like BofA offers. Oooh, can’t get enought of the 10%, $3 max credit back offers. Too die for.

52nd street is solidly in Midtown, not even close to downtown.

My bus stop is in front of this. It used to be a Citibank area with atms and its been “closed” for a good few weeks/months so I guess this is what they’re doing. The bank itself is underground though so there isn’t any above ground space.

Next door to this used to be a Juicy Courture, but that’s been shut down for months so I’m wondering if Citi took over that space too. It’s on a very busy block on 5th. Loads of tourists.
