Equifax

equifaxEquifax is the oldest (founded in 1899) of the three main consumer reporting agencies in the US (Experian & TransUnion being the other two). It’s responsible for collecting and collating credit data. This data is turned into credit reports which is then sold to creditors to aid them with their lending decisions.

Equifax currently has over 7,000 employees in 14 countries and revenue of $1.86 billion in 2010. It’s also listed on the NYSE with stock ticket EFX (NYSE:EFX)

Equifax, along with the other two bureaus also sell these credit reports to consumers. In 2003 under the FACTA amendment these bureaus were forced to give access for free to consumers credit reports once annually. Since then they’ve refocused and now sell credit scores direct to consumers through their website and partnerships.
