CVS Leaving The Five Back Program?

There is a Visa gift card called the Five Back Visa gift card issued by Blackhawk. This card earns 5% back at select merchants. Reader Andrew S was told that CVS will no longer be a participating merchant as of  today when they went into Simon Mall to make a purchase. Flyertalk user lumangoy also received the same information but with a January 20th end date, as did Project End Point.

CVS is still listed as a participating merchant on the Five Back website, but three separate reports indicate that it’s either likely that CVS are leaving the program or representatives  at Simon Mall have been misinformed.

Don’t know where to post this, so I searched Fiveback and found this article.

I believe Staples is no longer a member of the Fiveback companies.
Used a couple of these cards in store last week, checked account balances a couple days later and no 5% bump. Checked the website at fiveback, I no longer see Staples listed.

Sorry if this has already been covered elsewhere on DoC

I have purchase VGC with CC, yes they scan ID but I keep it to low 500 transactions from time to time. The thing is how to liquidate those 500 VGC?

They may have a gift card limit of $500 per transaction and they ask to scan your ID. At least at my stores anyway….which is why I avoid CVS now days.

$2000 per day for gift card purchases, I tried PPMC and vanilla load before and yes they accepted CC. But this really depends on the store and even the cashier. Some cashier @ CVS even rejected to try and say a lot of instructions/regulations in front of me. They do scan my ID, that being said, if you go to CVS store A to purchase $1500 already and you cannot purchase more than $500 in a different store B in one day. But I never max out daily limit anyway

Purposeful misinformation is common on FlyerTalk, but that’s not what’s going on here. If you have doubts, pick up your phone and call your Simon Mall.

There’s been a STRONG push of misinformation about MSing the Five Back cards on many forums since they came out so take this announcement with a grain of salt would be my advice. The Five Back to CVS to MO shuffle has been extremely profitable for many MSers and I’m guessing that many bloggers didn’t give it the attention it deserved as they were likely enjoying it as well.

That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be true as I’ve felt that this was a profit loss for CVS all along and assumed that more sooner than later it would end. 2016 had a lot of bad changes for the MSing world, but the Five Backs coming out in the last quarter definitely helps to ease the sting of the earlier part of the year.

CVS is hurting bad.
They are closing 100s of stores.
They are penny pinching everywhere to remain profitable.
Its my prediction that by 2018 you wont see CVS around anymore.

Carlos, i’ll give you 1000 to 1 odds that I will see a CVS in the year 2018. The most likely scenarios I don’t see one is if I am dead or kidnapped and locked in a bunker.

We will see.
CVS got to big to fast.
Yes they are closing there unprofitable stores but this is how it all begins.

You should report them to the SEC then. Their latest 10K filing said they made 3.6 billion in net profit in the first 9 months of 2016! How could they lie to shareholders like that?
