Discover 10% Bonus with Apple Pay, $2,000 Profit per Discover Card!

Discover announced today that starting September 16, cardmembers will be able to add their Discover cards to Apple Pay. As part of the rollout, they are making an amazing offer.

The Offer

Direct Link

  • Use your Discover cashback card with Apple Pay and get a 10% cashback bonus for up to $10,000 of in-store purchases.
  • Use your Discover it Miles, Miles and Escape with Apple Pay and earn an extra 10 miles per dollar on up to $10,000 of in-store purchases.

This offer is available from September 16 until years end. You can get 10% or 10-miles on up to $10,000 in purchases over those 3 & 1/2 months.

The Fine Print

  • In-store purchases only
  • In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch, as well as iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, upon availability.

Our Verdict

Wow! Wow! Not much more to say.

In the past, we’ve verified that ALL Discover cashback will be doubled at years end (for those enrolled in the double cashback offer), even for things like referral bonuses and Deals. It’s fair to assume this 10% bonus will be doubled as well.

This means you can get $2,000 cashback on $10,000 in spend. You may think it’s hard to do $10,000 in spend, but it’s not. Walgreens and Duane Reade accept Apple Pay and they sell $500 Visa gift cards. And there are probably some other good options as well. Let us know other ideas in the comments.

I may buy an iPhone to take advantage of this offer (ATT Access perhaps?). Or you can try asking a friend to use their phone. It could also make sense to apply for another Discover card in order to take advantage of this offer as it would be the equivalent of a $2,100 signup bonus; $2,000 from the promo + $100 from the initial signup via referral.

Anybody having trouble getting the 10% CB when your Discover statement closes? I’ve had 2 close since this promo started – first one didn’t have any Apple 10% bonus CB and second had $0.56 when I was owed $4+. They claim that cash back takes a few cycles to post but feels like I’m not getting my full bonus here. And didn’t buy any gift cards in the purchases.

My statement just came out and I hadn’t yet received any of my 10% apple pay purchases. none were gift cards so no reason to hold them back. I sent an email this am to discover asking when they are supposed to post the 10%. did anyone find out?

They’re still claiming 4-6 weeks/2 billing cycles.

Still no word. We’re very close though. Some people that managed to get charges in Sept 16th/17th just before their statements closed will be reporting data points in next couple days. Fingers crossed.

Speaking of which, my statement did close on the 16th. No bonuses. Perhaps by statement that closes on the 26th will show something else?

We did enjoy Discover until it became a headache. Had to fight on the bonus cashback. They almost didn’t give it to us until I started complaining. They mentioned they’re not responsible for categorizing stores and it’s the stores fault. They were running a deal where if you buy things from a hardware store you’d get the 5%. Well bought something from Ace Hardware online and Discover didn’t honor that blaming the store. It took months after of inactivity with the card before they decided to give me the bonus. Didn’t want to go through with that again so I stopped using Discover. Glad it works out for some.

The 10% discount excludes gift cards. This is clearly mentioned when you select the Discover card in the Wallet app ( after adding it, of course ) on your iPhone 6. Please update this article and also let us know if you have other alternative strategies to take maximum advantage of the 10% discount.
