Discover & Six Flags Benefit – 5% Cash Back + Dedicated Entry Line + More

Since 2009 Discover & Six Flags have had a partnership together. If you’ve ever been to Six Flags before, you probably noticed all of the Discover signage all over the park “Discover, official card of Six Flags”. If you hold a Discover credit card (e.g Discover it) then you’re entitled to a number of different benefits as follows:

5% Cash Back On All Six Flag Purchases

Discover offers rotating 5% cash back categories, but one thing that isn’t heavily advertised is that you can get 5% cash back on all Six Flag purchases. There are no spending limits, but you do need to sign up for this benefit to get 5% cash back.

5 cash back

You need to enroll every calendar year for this 5% cash back, if you’re not enrolled you will just earn the standard 1% cash back on all purchases.

Dedicated Entry Lane

Each Six Flags park has a dedicated Discover card member entry lane which can be used for the first two hours every day. As long as at least one member of your party has a Discover card (you’ll need to show this) you should be able to use this lane. From reports from around the web, they also seem to open this line 5-10 minutes before the main line as well.

How useful this is really dependent on how many other theme park goers also have a Discover card and how busy the park is that particular day. The coaster guy shares his experiences from back in 2011, where they let him in before the other line was open. People also share their experiences in this myFICO thread.

Ride Time Events

Every second Saturday of every month in 2015, select rides will be closed to regular customers two hours before park closing time. These rides will be available to Discover card holders & season pass holders exclusively.

Food Deals

They have something called “Discover Family Meal Deal” which lets you save some money on family meals. They are still pretty expensive ($10-$15 per person) but might make sense for some people.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to benefits like these, I like to think of them as an added bonus rather than a reason for applying for a specific card. The 5% rotating categories are the main value I see in this card and it often has a $150 cash sign up bonus, when it doesn’t have this bonus I don’t think the Discover it is worth applying for.

Have you used any of the Discover/Six Flag benefits before? If so, share your experiences in the comments. I’d especially like to hear about the Discover line and the ride time events. What are some of the little known or unknown credit card benefits you can think of?

I was informed by the Management of Six Flags that the partnership has ended, and will not be in place during the 2017 season. At this time, Six Flags does not have an official credit card, or a partnership in place that is comparable to what they had with Discover.

The discover fast entry lane was very quick and painless, I definitely enjoyed using the fast lane, because of the fact that I had my kids with me made it a breeze, the cash back is well worth it too. Don’t forget to get a shopping pass for the extra 20% off your purchases made in the park 🙂
