Question
The Premier Rewards Gold card from American Express offers an annual $100 airline credit toward incidental fees. A reader recently asked:
Can you get the $100 Airline Fee Credit on both the card owner and authorized user cards ($200 total) or just a complete total of $100 using any combination of the cards? Thanks!
Unfortunately, the credit is only a single, $100 credit and there’s no way to multiply that by adding authorized-users (AU) on the account.
The question still remains:Â Can you put the $100 airline fees on an AU card? And, can you do a combination of AU spend and primary spend to trigger the $100 airline credit?
The same question can be asked with regards to the Amex Platinum $200 airline benefit and with regards to the Citi Prestige $250 airline benefit.
Answer
In all cases, the answer is that you can put the spend on the AU card. Additionally, you can do a combination of AU spend and primary-cardholder spend to meet the spend amount and trigger the credit.
The first point is actually clear in the terms of both Amex (link) and Citi (link) that the airline credit can be triggered by AU spend. We clarified further with the media teams of Citi and Amex that a combination of spend on the AU card and the primary card will also work to trigger the airline benefits.
@Chucksth Yes! Purchases made by the Primary cardmember and Authorized Users can be combined toward the $250 credit. ^BW
