Free FICO Scores Coming To Discover

free FICO score discover

Discover has announced that card holders will be able to access their credit scores for free, they claim to be the first credit card issuer to offer this benefit but I think Walmart & Barclaycard would like a word.

The free score Discover will be offering is a TransUnion score (presumably TU-08, which is the same score Walmart & Barclaycard offer). We assume this is part of the FICO open access initiative from FICO.

Card holders will start seeing their FICO score on their monthly balance statements starting from the 19th of November 2013 (directly below “Account Summary”). Free FICO scores are only available for Discover IT card holders at the moment, although Discover’s news release has stated that it will be rolled out to other accounts in the up coming months.

Discover MORE card holders can upgrade to Discover IT (this will be a soft pull so it won’t count as a new application and thus won’t affect your credit score if making the switch). There is also no reason to not upgrade as the MORE card and IT card are the same, but the MORE card starts with a 0.25% cashback that ramps up to 1% after a spend of $3000, where as the IT card starts at 1% cash back (which is an extra $22.50 per year in cash back).

Authorized users will NOT have access to their scores.
