Our Verdict

$20 Staples gift card isn’t the best, but still worthwhile for some. There’s also currently a deal this week (ends 3/18) which offers a $20 Visa card rebate. Learn more about Staples Easy Rebates in this post.

There’s also a deal at Staples next week to get 20% off Gap brand gift cards. Terms say in-store only, but these deals usually end up popping up online too.

Anyone get their rebate rejected? I got the initial confirmation that it had been accepted last night but this morning received an email saying the UPC was invalid…the checkout girl said the promo only applied to specific UPCs but then she checked them and said they were eligible. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes my rebate got rejected too yesterday ..
It said I was not eligible.. if I was not eligible I shouldn’t have gotten a rebate form with the bill..

Exactly. Doesn’t make any sense. And I checked my UPCs and they’re not any of the ones listed except that the checkout girl verified that they were covered under the promo and she said they were…something’s not right.

Took me a while to figure out what the PIN is on these us bank mastercard gc’s. Did not see any mention of it on the packaging and on the website I did not see any way to set the pin either. Had to call the number on the back of the card which had an option to set the PIN.

Drained them via buying money order at Publix.

Went purchase $400 in Visa GC today and was planning on doing 2 transactions. First, I was told that I cannot use a debit card/CC to purchase a VISA GC. Got the manager involved and he ok it since I know that is not true. Then I got turned down on the 2nd transaction because they just got a new corporate briefing stating that the limit on VGC/MC/Amex GC is $500 (used to be $2000) per person per day (and other GCs limit such as iTunes is $1000/day), so now I was not allowed to do a 2nd transaction as this would exceed the $500 daily limit. Is this new and true ? or this is a bunch of BS. I couldn’t argue with him on that since I do not know or have proof that this isn’t true. Just wondering if anyone else got this run around. I was planning to do the MC deal this week, but if I’m limited to only 1 transaction in 1 day, I am not going to bother with the hassle of it since there is not a nearby Staples within 20 miles of me.

I haven’t heard of that. Sounds like either they were just giving you a hard time or there really is a new policy but is not really enforced everywhere as I just purchased two sets in two separate transactions today.

as always with MS – YMMV

I wouldn’t have pressed it either whether or not you “knew” what was right or not.

my nearest staples doesn’t allow GC with CC *at all*. Closed or open loop = nada.

Had no problem last week buying 3 x 2 x 200 at a different location.

Hello All ..

I opened my ink card and got approved on March 21,2016 I have maxed out 50k . And was told 3 times in past week limit would reset on March 21, 2017 So any spend after that would be 5x on the bonus category so I was all geared up to do staples promo next week having sit out this week already and was waiting for a better bonus on amex simply cash card

I just read on boarding area that this info by Chase is completely inaccurate And my limit won’t reset till next cycle hits on April 18, 2017 even though anniversary date has past

If I downgrade to chase cash would the limit rest Immediately ?? Anyone try this before and got 5x after anniversary date??

or maybe I have to apply for Amex simply cash card.. This will be my first Amex business card , I was waiting for better offer. What’s re chances for instant approval on first business card with Amex Credit history is excellent but opened Chase business preferred recently. Also would Amex expedite the card if approved today ??

Would Appreciate quick guidance on this ?

Worse, they also don’t answer the phone. It’s an automated system, they say to leave a message or fax, and they’ll get back to ya. US Bank is a huge scam. CFPB needs to lay down some smack.

Just checked on some that I had from an October Staples deal (annoying to use these!). 1 of 3 compromised, and just in the last 2 weeks.

I’m staying away from these from now on. They’re not good money makers and unless you’re using USPO, the denomination and hassle at WM (plus swipe opportunity cost vs a $500) are too high.

USBank has known about their compromised algorithm for YEARS now. I think they’re in on the organized crime.

What’s not easy about going online and submitting the rebate? I’m in and out in 1 minute, can’t be much easier than that.

Exactly. By the time you get home, you can already submit it and get the rebate in less than 4 weeks.

Never let’s me submit the same day when it’s fresh in my mind but I believe you have 60 days to submit. It is super easy.

You can always submit the same day. Even if the rebate is not ready (i.e., it won’t show you which rebate you qualify for), you can submit using the number at the bottom of your receipt and it will process just the same.

1) purchase on 10/2, test charge of $1 on 10/13, fraud on 10/17

2 and 3) purchase on 10/2, noticed test charge on 10/16 or 17 (after seeing #1); call and reported fraud…here’s the kicker…they allowed fraudulent charges across the 2 cards on 10/19, 20 and 21

When there is no fraud…the cards worked great for 5x + rebate. 5 months and still waiting for credit…not worth the risk for me.

Good luck.

I have been confused lately on which Bank cards work in which places for MO. Can someone clarify where can these cards be drained ?

The last time that I bought Mastercard Gift Cards was in September or October. Walmart did not work, but the Post Office worked just fine. I am assuming that is still the case, but a lot can change in 6 months.

These have worked for me everywhere. At Walmart, the MCGC defaults to credit and you have to hit cancel rather quickly after swiping, then select debit. A hassle and you have to be pay attention.

Of course, change is a constant. What worked yesterday could be different today.

Have seen conflicting reports too on loading mo’s at Kroger and such. Last time around, they worked just fine for me at my local Kr’s in hoo’ville — for both MO and for Account Now reloads. ymmv

U.S. Bank cards (doesn’t matter if Visa or MC, it just happens to be that both Staples and Office Depot sell Visas issued by MetaBank and MCs issued by U.S. Bank) work at BOTH the post office and WM. At WM, they default to credit and you have to quickly hit the change button in order to have it run as debit, but then it will work fine.

Metabank cards work flawlessly at WM, but don’t work at PO at all.

Vanilla cards (which includes OVs as well as regular gift cards with gift packaging) work flawlessly at PO, but only work at WM as debit if the transaction is $49.99 or less (which makes it basically useless there for most of us).

Sunrise cards have worked for me at WM, not sure about PO.

Those are all I know about, but those cover most gift cards available these days.

CtownBin,

so, this MC gift card from staples is issued by U.S. Bank?
and it works at PO for MO?

Thanks in advance!

My local PO has signs posted that say no gift cards, so YMMV. I still have a working Serve card, so I don’t have to hassle with MOs.

YMMV, but I’ve gotten MB MOs at Giant grocery store. I’ve also been denied there. It helps if you’re using cards that don’t look like the ones they sell.
