Giant/Stop&Shop: 2x Fuel Points on Visa Gift Cards [3/3-3/9]

The Offer

(We’ll add the direct link tomorrow)

  • Get 2x fuel points on the purchase of Visa gift cards at Giant and Stop&shop

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S, but they’ll occasionally release offers like this to get points for gift card purchases.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 3/3 through 3/9 [starts Friday, 3/3]
  • Must use store card to get and use points
  • Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
  • We now accept credit card payment for purchases of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards

Gas Points Details

Here are the gas points details:

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.

  • Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
  • You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1.
  • Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included.
  • See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
  • Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.

Our Verdict

For each tank of gas you’ll need over the next month, buy $750 of Visa gift cards to get $1.50 off the tank. I’ll probably do $4,000 or $4,500 for five or six tanks.

Time to pull out those grocery credit cards. Max of $5,000 can be purchased in a day. They’ll copy your driver license number for purchases of $2,000 or more.

My stop and shop just asked me for my social security card. Wtf? Apparently it’s corporate law. Rogue employees or true statement?

@ Vishal
Appears to be Trumpism. They probably want to know if you are a legal resident.

@Vishal
As a rule I don’t give my SSN to anyone unless absolutely required since now-a-days every database gets hacked.
I will certainly not give to a store cashier who is just making it up. Instead I’ll ask for the manager failing which I’ll write to their corporate office about your experience.

I have a Hyundai Elantra and a Ford Edge. Both use very little gas. In NY/CT Shell is 2.29-2.39, I just pay cash and get 1.50 off/gallon. And I use Amex BCPreferred and Amex OBCash in S&S. They only claw back if you buy GC to meet bonus requirements, or so I’ve heard.

I don’t understand the Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.
Can someone explain please?

You can usually buy a shell gift card using a credit card – some methods might land you 2x or something. Once you have that gift card and the extra points, you can swipe your Stop and Shop card (to get the 1.50 off) and the gift card to pay to get the debit/cash price. Otherwise, it’s usually at least 10c more per gallon using a credit card at the pump.

The Shells near me charge the credit price when I use a Shell gc so I don’t benefit at all.

I don’t know about the rest of PA, but in my area Shell doesn’t have any ties with Giant. Giant around here has it’s own gas stations (Giant to-go).

Just wanted to mention that.

Just a friendly reminder for most people. Don’t even consider to fulfill spending requirement for Amex with VGC. Don’t even think about it. They WILL claw back ur bonus and they WILL claw back the bonus you MSed in the past.

How are they tracking it? Genuine question and not arguing with you. I do organic spend to meet minimum spend requirements usually. But if I use it to buy $1000 of gift cards with this deal, how are they going to track me? Assuming I am doing the rest of my spend organically and gradually over 3 months.

I think they only do that to people who buy GCs worth $5000 in one transaction.
If you buy $500 GCs along with your usual groceries then that’s doesn’t get noticed.

That’s true but Amex collects L3 data from many merchants. They know what you bought.

This is for only leaked applications, we are still good with non-leaked stuff

That’s is true for now. Amex didn’t use to review application using leaked link in the past either. Who knows if they wouldn’t start to review ur past sign up bonus reward history during say financial review in the future. My point is we have to be extra careful with Amex these days and don’t leave them any basis for retroactively taking back your membership reward points.
