A little over a year ago, I started this blog. Originally it was designed to cater exclusively to credit score information, I was unhappy with the information that was out there and even more unhappy with companies that were misleading consumers into purchasing credit scores that weren’t the same as the ones lenders looked at.
My first post (at least the first post I remember writing, I wrote a number of “pages” that weren’t on the blog first) was titled “How To Get A Free FICO Score With A Walmart Credit Card“. It was only natural progression that I started to write more and more on credit cards, as the number of card issuers that decided to offer free FICO scores increased.
I’ve also enjoyed writing about bank bonuses, as it’s something that doesn’t get nearly as much attention (most likely due to the fact that they don’t pay a commission to blog owners. You’ll notice that when they do pay a referral bonus [e.g capital one 360] that the number of bloggers talking about it drastically increases).
I just want to thank everybody that reads this blog on a daily basis. I’ve learnt a lot since I started blogging and hope I can continue to learn and contribute to the community. Some of you might enjoy looking at this blogs growth chart, as you can see almost nobody read this site when it began but it has continually grown, I hope this growth continues.
I’m going to hold a few contests to celebrate this blogs birthday, but unfortunately it’s going to have to wait a month or so. My contract at work has finished (I’ll be starting a new contract with the same company and in the same position) and I’ve opted to take three weeks of leave to explore Myanmar/Burma, I’ve heard the internet isn’t the best so my writing will be intermittent at best (I won’t be blogging about this or any other trips as this is not a travel blog).
In the mean time, I’d like to share with you some of the blog posts that I am most proud of (not in any particular order).
- FICO scores explained in detail
- Bank accounts that are fundable by credit card
- Is opening a bank account a hard or soft pull?
- List Of Methods Banks Count As Direct Deposits
- Best Downgrade Options & Rules For Each Card Issuer
Do you have a favorite post on Doctor of Credit, if so what is it? Also how did you originally find out about the site?
Congrats! Love your blog…keep up the great work!
Congrats!
I’d like to see more of the gift card deals, score news, cash back deals, less of the credit card news. We can get the credit card news & deals dozens of places. Sounds like you’re pressed for time and you’re much better at the other stuff. Would come back more often to see that rather than another ‘no fee on BA visa’ or ‘heres a review of a card’ posts that drain your time and aren’t all that unique.
Thanks for all your hard work and expertise Will, always enjoy reading your posts–quick and to the point. Hope you have a great time in Burma!
Congratulations on the 1-year anniversary!!!
I really like the format you use to explain the pros and cons of offers. You concisely explain the pros and cons of each offer without the bullsh#*. For example, the T-Mobile Prepaid Card series of articles was excellent. Your use of footnotes is very original and useful.
I used to read thepointsguy a lot, but he has completely sold out to the affiliate links.
Keep up the good work!!!
Congrats on your 1 year anniversary. You’ve done a great job of differentiating your blog from the thousands of other blogs out there. Thank you for reaching out to me a few months back to do some guest postings. I knew you had talent from those early postings and I am glad you have continued to grow your readership and expand the number of topics you cover.
P.S. If you need any company to Myanmar/Burma, please let me know. I have some free time right now… 🙂
Why are my comments constantly removed from this blog?
We’ve never removed your comments or anybody elses. It’s possible they are in the spam filter, but I just had a quick look and didn’t see any with your e-mail address. Feel free to e-mail me the full comments and I’ll add them manually.
Congrats Will! Your blog has been one of my favorites this past year.
Happy birthday! DOC has become my favorite blog on this topic lately. I took advantage of some of the special offers you wrote about lately and learned a lot about credit cards, bank accounts and the like I didn’t know before. Way to go!
