Keybank has acquiried First Niagara bank and because of this acquisition it’s now possible to sign up for Keybank checking accounts in PA, MA & CT. The current sign up bonus they are offering is $300 and requires a direct deposit of $500. They have offered a $400 bonus with the same requirements in the past and a $300 bonus with the hassle free checking account, so there are better offers sometimes available but if you’ve completed the other recommended bonuses and looking for something new then this is still a good offer.

A First Niagara branch in PA told me that I can open a checking account with Key starting October 11. Looks like I can only do online checking now and have to wait until Oct 11 to open in branch.
Pr, go to Keybank’s homepage at keybank.com. The checking bonus information is clearly stated. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, just above the fine print there is a box that says,” Email me a coupon”. Fill that out even if you are applying online. You will immediately receive an email from them with your reservation code.The first part of the code (before thw hyphen)is the offer code, the numbers after the hyphen are the reservation code. It would be helpful if they made that part clear, but I figured it out easIly by trial and error. After you complete the application and fund your account you will immediately see your new account number. Does this help?

Thanks DOC for letting me know. I live in Hartford County in CT and I was just approved for this. I had to have the code emailed to me because the offer code required a reservation code. I put in the offer code, and then the rest of the characters after the hyphen in the reservation code and I was able to get it to work.
My husband and I each opened accounts from PA this afternoon.

Marketing/Reservation code that they send via email doesn’t seem to work for a PA address. It says the codes are invalid.

Similar here, only I cut it closer to the transition period, closed end of June. I got some Welcome packet from Keyback so I might be in their system unfortunately even with a closed account.
Well I received that communication too from them. Weird that they still send those fur accounts that are closed.
It says not eligible if you’ve had any accounts with them in past 12 months. Not sure how that works with First Niagara, if anybody tries then let us know.
I asked Key Bank via chat about my eligibility for their checking account bonus given that I had previously received a 1st Niagra bonus:
“Mike:Yes, it is simply not having an account with KeyBank in the last 12 months. Your First Niagara accounts would not count as KeyBank account”
Thanks, Mark. I’d recommend anybody thinking about it getting the same confirmation so you can file a CFPB complaint if they decide not to honor it.
I was finally able to set-up online banking and came to discover that my long closed 1st Niagra account had transferred over and was now showing as a closed Key Bank checking account.
After 45-minutes with Key Bank customer service, it was determined I was indeed ineligible for the sign-up bonus.
Apparently the transfer over of accounts had been in process for quite some time prior to the official announcement.
I asked them to close my account, but they wanted to whack me a early termination fee. I then employed the magic words: “CFPB”, and Key Bank said, that while they could not waive the early termination fee, they would send a gift card to cover it.
