Our Verdict
I’m not sure if this will deal works with a variable-load card; looks like only the $100 denomination will trigger the $10 grocery credit. Throw in $100 Visa/MC gift card next time you do a shopping trip of $10 or more and the $10 will come off the total, as I understand.
Even better, we’ve mentioned a few times that Kroger is running 4x fuel points through 12/10 (with digital coupon) which should work on fixed-value Visa/MC/Amex gift card making this deal even better if you get on it this week.

Darn, I didn’t realize I only had one day to load it. Unable to load it today. Missed it.
Something weird happened when I tried to redeem the offer on a second Ralphs account (different phone number). I didn’t get the discount, and the receipt seems to show fuel points from my first account on the second account. So they seem to have linked the accounts together, even though the receipt shows a different “rewards customer” number. Maybe it’s because both accounts have the same address. And the same computer was used when adding the coupons.
What about the 5.95 fee for the gift card…Are these 100 VGC going to be fee free?
I passed on this because of the 5.95 fee. I would do it if I had a card that earned extra points at grocery stores.
I am doing this for the fuel points. I was going to do the AMEX $100 + $50 + $25 gift card offers on 12/10 for 4x points but $100 AMEX + $100 VGC is better. Plus, my plan is to buy $100 AMEX in the AM and then $100 VGC with groceries in PM using my $100 AMEX + my Sallie Mae 5% back at grocery stores MC, which would give me $10 back that includes the fee. Those two gift cards = 800 fuel points = 80 c/gal discount on gas at Kroger =~ $8.00 back for me.
Fat Wallet Friend 3c3 says the AMEX GCs are slow to activate. Maybe as much as a half hour.

What do you mean by this? Have you tried it? The wording sounds like it should be instant (it doesn’t say “on your next order”). Though, it says “$10 off your grocery purchase”, which might mean you need to buy other non-gift card items in the same order to get the discount.
I just tried it. I bought a $100 Visa GC + $3.99 peanuts (which were free with another digital coupon), and I got the full $10 discount. So it seems to just be an instant $10 off the gift card, without requiring any other grocery items to be purchased.
Purchased $100.00 flat rate +5.95 – $10.00 without any groceries.
Variable $$$ VCG is NOT couponed. Coupon does NOT come up with VCG set at $100.00.
Has worked for me the last few days. Used the amex cards I bought from Kroger to pay for for this.
Can you buy VGC with AGC or vice versa at Kroger?
Last time I tried to buy some Amazon GC with AGC at Kroger but got denied with “authorization failed”. Not sure if it’s because AGC still in activation (I just bought the it a few min before) or Kroger hard-coded to deny this transaction
I also tried same., but the system rejected. My Amex card was already activated.
I doubt it because the clerks input your Kroger number, ID like a driver license and are supposed to verify the ID name matches the name on the card used to make the purchase.
YMMV as some clerks may fail to verify the name on the card.
