On March 30th a number of changes will be made to the American Express Personal Platinum (Business card will also have changes made, outlined here). One of those changes is an increase to the annual fee, it will go from $450 to $550. If you sign up for the card now, you’ll get the $450 annual fee (this year only, then it will go up to $550). In addition it’s currently bonus to get a sign up bonus of 75,000 points after $5,000 in spend (this is an incognito mode offer, some people will say the current offer is 40,000 points but this is deceptive). There are some unsubstantiated rumors that the official sign up bonus will change to 60,000 points after $5,000 in spend. It’s possible that the incognito mode will also disappear and be replaced by this 60,000 point offer (or maybe they will increase the incognito mode offer).
IMHO, theres really no reason to sign up now unless youre desperate…
No chance I’ll get the 100k and another 25k MR wouldn’t be worth the increased AF to me anyways. This’ll get me another year of Plat, with plenty of international flights coming up, I’ll get good use of the lounges, plus the $400 in SW GC (w/ CP), this ain’t so bad. We’ll see what the fee changes do to bonuses, but $5k for 75k MR is a good deal to me at this point.
Also does Amex combine query if I apply business card and consumer card e.g. Hilton surpass at the same day?

Yea signed up for 75k / $5k last night. My MB Plat is due up in April and figured I’d lock in another year at $450 / year.
Ah, the MR gamble. I don’t care about the fee increase because thankfully I’ll get SCRA benefits – however I’m really hoping for 100,000. Do I hold out from the current incognito offer for potentially 25,000 more at the risk of the bonus dropping all the way down to 40,000. Decisions decisions
