Update: It’s looks like MetaBank has removed all of the cards from their site for purchase. It’ll be interesting to see if these come back and what fees are charged if they do. It’ll also be interesting to see if they allow those with reloadable cards to continue reloading them.
I’d hoped to have a more detailed post to go live for our manufacturing Monday series, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to get it done on time as I’ve been sick most of the weekend. Instead I thought I’d give you two quick updates.
- MetaBank has removed the $1,000 gift cards they were selling for $4.95. Their reloadable Youth, Travel & Reloadable cards are still available for purchase though.
- The new Chime card cannot be loaded with all gift cards unfortunately. I’ve tried loading it with MetaBank gift cards (most common Visa gift cards) and it didn’t work. Others have had success using the Business Paypal debit card. Even if gift card funding doesn’t work it still might be useful to hold though if they continue to offer good cash back deals, plus there is no hard pull and seems to be no ChexSystems inquiry as well.
Loaded Chime with $100 from TD Buxx.
Keep in mind that once you load money on Chime, the only way to withdraw your funds is to make purchases or pay a fee at an ATM or bank. As a customer service representative told me, you cannot do an ACH transfer to your bank — Chime differs from Serve in this respect.
I’d be very grateful if you signed up using my referral link.
