Discover has launched a new range of cards: Discover it NHL cards. You’re able to choose a card design of your favorite NHL card and it comes with the following benefits:
- 5% cash back in rotating categories
- 1% cash back on all other purchases
- Free FICO Score
- 10% off NHL gear
- No annual fee
- Freeze it feature
- Six Flags discounts & 5% cash back
As you can see, it’s actually just a rebranding of the regular Discover it card (you can get 10% off NHL gear if you check Discover Deals). In fact if your an existing Discover it cardholder, you can even request one of the new card designs (your card needs to have been upgraded to have an EMV chip for this option to appear).
It looks like this is part of Discover’s plan to get into the affinity credit card space, they also have a similar partnership with Northwestern University for example. I’m a bit disappointed, when I saw there was going to be a NHL card I was hoping for something a bit different (maybe something like the BBVA NBA card which offers 5% on all purchases at certain times of the year)
