New, One-Year Return Policy at Target for Certain Items

Target announced an extended return policy for all Target-brand products for up to a year. They also extended the one-year return policy for all items purchased through the Gift Registry.

Previously, returns were allowed for 90 days and an additional 30 days for REDcard holders. Under the new rules, all 32 of Target brand products will be eligible for a full year and an additional 30 days for Target REDcard holders. Some of the better-known Target labels are Up & Up, Archer Farms, Threshold and Room Essentials. (Complete list below.)

The move comes on the heels of the new threshold for free shipping at target.com which was lowered to $25, indicating a shift in branding themselves as comsumer-centric and easy to deal with. The company also mentioned that they’ll be more relaxed about accepting returns from those who don’t have receipts. As always, you don’t need the actual receipt – in any case – since they can pull up the item for return by swiping the card it was purchased with.

On a similar note, Target will now allow returns on items bought through the Gift Registry for a full year from the event date. This policy covers all items, even non Target-branded.

Registry returns must be in new, unused condition, while store-brand items can sometimes be returned in used condition, if the item proved defective.

I always thought Amazon’s 30 day policy was standard, but it seems that most major retailers usually allow up to 90 days.
