Paypal Business Debit Will Soon be 1% For Everyone

The Paypal Business Debit card (PPBDC) is a unique debit card which pulls money from your Paypal account and offers 1% cashback on all signature purchases.

The PPDBC used to offer 1.5% cashback and, until now, those who have the card for a while have been grandfathered under the old terms. Paypal just sent out an email to the grandfathered cardholders that as of 9/1/15, they will be reduced to the standard 1% rate.

We want to let you know about a decision we’ve made to adjust our PayPal Business Debit MasterCard® rewards program. Starting September 1, 2015, your cash back rebate of 1.5 percent on eligible purchases will change to 1 percent

We value the business of all our customers, and especially appreciate you for being a loyal program customer for many years. While we discontinued the 1.5 percent rebate several years ago for newer customers, cardholders like you remained eligible for it as a courtesy in recognition of your loyalty

This was a difficult decision, but we needed to take steps now to ensure we could continue offering a benefit that so many of our customers use and enjoy every day. As a longtime customer, you know that the cash back rebate is just one of the many benefits that set the PayPal Business Debit MasterCard® apart from other card options.

I don’t know if anyone else has realized it or maybe I’m just slow. Using PayPal business debit card to fund Amazon account does not count as purchase that can earn the 1% reward, not even getting 1% for using the card to checkout directly on Amazon. I got my cashback today for July purchases and realized that the funding on July’s Amazon’ prime day does not earn points. I don’t see anywhere in PayPal that can clarify which transaction counts and which doesn’t. But I made an excel file myself and just realized it.

I noticed that I’ve been converted down to 1% and I have received NO NOTICE from PayPal about it. I scoured my email and checked my spam folder. Pretty low for PayPal to convert some without letting us know. If I hadn’t seen this post I wouldn’t have even thought to check.

So even if you haven’t received a notice you might want to check yours.

Any uses for this card since it doesn’t pay cb on Citi bank payments? I got one but can’t figure out what to use it on for non pin purchases.

One legitimate use is government fees such as property taxes. Paying via credit often incurs heavy fees, while it’s possible to come out ahead with a debit card.

There are more lucrative options, but as with anything PayPal related, those carry some degree of risk.

I use it to load up Serve and pay bills with it, essentially I am getting 2% cash back on my purchases and easy $15 cash back a month!

The only thing is that it takes a few business days for the funds to transfer from my bank account.

When you load Serve, you have to use Debit. I thought the PayPal card only gives cash back when it is run as credit?

Interesting. So in order to use it without a PIN, you run it as credit, correct?

I am still receiving 1.5% and have not received any notice via email of downgrading to 1%.

It’s a testament to how much time I spend on this site that I knew about this previous post. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/existing-paypal-business-debit-cardholders-will-receive-only-1-cash-back-starting-july-1st/

From the comments on Reddit, it seems the effective date is different for some people.

Yes, the effective date must be different for some people. I am grandfathered into the 1.5% but I haven’t received a notice…. YET.
