The Offer

Direct Link

Plastiq is launching another one of their discounted bill pay fees, this one is again for Mastercard payments.

  • Pay any bill with a Mastercard credit card and the processing fee will be just 1.5%. This offer is not limited to any particular type of payee: any business can be paid via Plastiq and will get this promotional rate.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 11/30/15 at 5 PM PT

Our Verdict

1.5% is a nice offer and could be useful for minimum spends and the like.

With previous promotions, Plastiq allowed us to set recurring payments for the future and be locked in at the promotional rate. This promo does not offer that and is only valid for one-time payments made during the offer period. (Any previous bills that you locked in at the 1.5% rate or on another promo should continue as before.)

I haven’t used Plastiq yet but just a heads up to any other newbies – FrequentMiler’s Quick Deal alert email advised “I keep getting more and more complaints from readers who have tried Plastiq, but end up regretting it” apparently due to delays in getting payments set-up even though they appear to be have initially gone through, so he says to avoid potential late fees “if you plan to use Plastiq, make sure to pay bills many weeks earlier than the due date.”

Strangely, I’m trying to set up a payment to my mortgage with a Mastercard I need some min spend on, and it’s not giving me the 1.5% promo rate – when I try to switch to a different MC, it does get the promo rate.

Refresh my memory please: I can’t pay credit cards with Plastiq, right? Just wondering about going full cycle using Citi Double Cash to pay my credit union CC, transfer the amount back to my checking account and pay Citi with the same money…
