PSA: Chase Is Matching To 80,000 IHG Offer – But It’s Slightly Different

Earlier in November we posted that some people were struggling to get matched to the Chase IHG 80,000 offer (see below). It turns out that it is still possible to get matched to this offer, but it requires $2,000 in spend instead of the $1,000 previously needed. People that tried to get matched to the 80,000 point offer with only $1,000 have been the ones being denied. Glad to see this is still around!

Update: Please read the comments, it looks like you can still get matched but the new offer requires $2,000 in spend instead of $1,000.

It’s been possible to sign up for the Chase IHG offer with a 60,000 point bonus and then ask to be matched to this 80,000 point bonus for awhile now (although you wouldn’t get the $50 statement credit), simply by sending a secured message. Reader JCM commented to let us know that he was denied for his match, I asked on Twitter and had another confirmation on denial for getting matched.

I don’t want to say that this is 100% dead as we only have two data points, but I did want to give people a quick warning. If you’ve asked to be matched on or after November 1st, 2016 then please let us know your results in the comments below. Hopefully these are just isolated cases and matching is working just fine.

On the phone with CS and they say yesterday, they changed the offers and now there is a 100k offer available. I asked for the $50 statement credit but that was a no go. No code, just over the phone.

Interesting, is this a targeted offer or public offer that is only available only over the phone? I know they have offered 100k targeted in the past, but would not match to public offers….. was going to apply for this today but want to get this question answered first…

Applied, prob at 15/24, got 30 day wait, appeared in my account 2 days later, SM’d request to match at 80k and no annual fee. this is the response, not sure yet about annual fee being waived or not, will report back.

“We reviewed your credit card account and found that the
offer you requested was 80,000 bonus points after you
spend $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your
account is open. We are pleased to extend this offer to
your account.
please meet the spending requirement of $2,000.
After you have met the required spend, please reply to
this email to claim the offer.
You’ll be eligible as long as:
– You have not received a new cardmember bonus for this
card in the past 24 months.
– Your account is open and not in default when we post the
bonus.
– Your eligible purchases do not include balance
transfers, cash advances, and cash-like charges such as
traveler’s checks, foreign currency, and money orders, any
checks that access your account, overdraft advances,
interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, or fees of
any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable”

I got an email with 80000 points after 2K spend but AF is not waived.. is that a good deal? or can I go through the option mentioned above – sign up for 60K points with AF waived and have that matched with 80,000 points.. AF was not discussed on the post or on the comments.

Is it too late to ask for a match in 4/17?

Just asked on 4/30 through a secure message and got the 80k offer. This is still available

Do you mean you applied first under the 60k offer, and got them to match the 80k offer? Or you messaged them even before applying (in which case how do you do that?)

Did you apply first and then asked for a match to the 80k offer? Or did you do the SM first (though not sure how you could do that?)

Yes I applied first and then asked for a match by SM. Say you “came across an 80k point offer after applying”.

In response to Guru calling in I also called to ask for the 80K/$2K spend offer, they did indeed have that offer, however the lady mentioned that there was no anniversary free night attached to that offer 🙁 I might call in again to check if something different shows up but seems like YMMW

You’re 100% right, first rep must have been confused. I called again and was offered 80K + free anniversary night and AF waived first year for $2K spend. Managed to talk to 4 people (!) before getting approved. 1st person IHG, 2nd person Chase, 3rd person Chase further verification and decline (I’m at 15/24 with 2 Chase cards CSR & CFU), 4th person review and reconsideration. 4th person asked tough questions such as why I had so many recent apps, I talked about building credit history, budgetting between different types of spend and wanting a hotel card for travel purpose. None of that helped, finally scored the approval by moving credit from my CSR. Hope that helps as a data point!

I sent Chase an SM this morning asking if they would match the 80k and $2k spend and they did.

I recently got an email from IHG offering 80,000 points after $2k spend and no credit statement. I just sent Chase an SM to see if they can match.

I have been waiting for the 80k offer to come back. I just came across this post. I wish I would have seen it sooner. Has anyone applied recently for the 60k offer and gotten Chase to increase it to 80k? I’m trying to decide if I should try this now or keep waiting for the 80k to come back. I have a trip this summer that 80k points would really help with.

I was matched about a month ago. It was fairly painless to SM for the match. If you have a trip comming up this summer I wouldn’t wait. IHG award availability can run out pretty quickly and the points take at least one statement period to post

Just applied/approved. When do you suggest SMing them to ask for the 80k match? After I meet the $1k spend, or after I start spending on the card?

Update:

I received my card last week and put a little spend on it. Today I SM’d them and asked if I could switch to the 80k offer. They were able to switch me to that offer, but I have to spend $2k and I lose the $50 credit. I’m happy with that.
