Our Verdict
How good this deal will depend on what credit cards you have available to you. Obviously you’ll want to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases, the highest of these is 5% (one earns 6%, but when you take into account the annual fee and spending limit it’s actually lower). Let’s see how profitable this deal is when using a 5% cash back card:
- 2 x $500 gift cards + $5.95 in fees per card = $1,011.9 * 5% = $50.595
- $15 off $25 coupon
- Nets you a total of $65.595
- After $11.9 in fees you’ll profit $53.695
The coupon basically covers the gift card fees and gives you a little extra. Obviously you’d need to do regular shopping at Safeway to get the full value out of the coupon.
