Southwest Sends Out Erroneous Emails Regarding Companion Pass Status

Many people who had the Southwest Companion Pass in 2016 are getting an email from Southwest indicating that they have status in 2017 as well.

Southwest confirmed the error and advises us to disregard the email.

Seems like just the kind of error that could be remedied with some free drink coupons… Oh, yeah, they don’t have those anymore, do they?

They do still have free drink coupons. I get them about once a quarter. Would much rather get points or discount code.

Adding another data point, I received an email stating I attained A-List Preferred status (though I didn’t fly enough on SWA to come even close). Had A-List Preferred for all of 2016. Probably an error too. Logging into my account just shows that “tier status is pending due to and end of year processing.” It’s been that way for days.

They did this to me as well. I called them and they said they wouldn’t do anything.

That’s annoying, they should at the very least send out an e-mail saying it was sent out in error.

And offer some goodwill points for their mistake.

Email just received:
Today you received an email that incorrectly stated you had earned Companion Pass for 2017. This email was sent as a result of an error in our year end processing for Companion Pass status. Unfortunately you did not earn the status reflected. We recognize that receiving this email from us may have caused confusion and/or frustration, due to its inaccuracy regarding your 2017 status. For that, we offer our sincere apologies.

We admit this isn’t the best way to start the New Year. That said, we appreciate your understanding when we make a human error like this one.

Glad to see they at least did that, some points/discount code would have been nice as well.

I was pulling for a free drink coupon, honestly.

Could have had a clever piece of writing apologizing.

Herb woulda.

Haha…talk about adding insult to injury. I had CP for 2015-16 and was planning on it again with Marriott transfer for ’17-18. This certainly had my hopes up for about 30 seconds when I received the email this morning.

Ouch, I feel bad for SPG/Marriott hopefuls that received this email.

And me!

But then the news of them relenting until end of March!

So a very turbulent RR ride the past 72 hours!

I wonder if this is related to them giving me an extra 80,000 points this year for referrals. In total between 2 cards I have received 39 referrals totaling 195,000 points. Or maybe I am just that good of a hustler.

I’m giving Sw a pass on this. They are a phenomenal airline from the top to the bottom.
