The Fine Print

Our Verdict

These 5x Bucks are not common and it’s worth trying to maximize your eBay purchases under these offers for the extra savings. We reported on numerous gift card deals available today on eBay and adding an extra 10% back on them can really make for a killer deal!

The $200 Target gift card for $185 becomes $166.50 after the Bucks and even less by going through a shopping portal (see below). The other deals will be even better with the bonus Bucks as well.

Portal

Remember also to go through a shopping portal for 2% back from the Shopathome portal, or go through Topcashback and get the 2% rate matched (see also Best Shopping Portal for eBay Purchases).

Currently, there are a bunch of bonus holiday offers from shopping portals and they are ending soon. You may want to use those offers instead to hit the bonus thresholds, even though their rates may be low. I’ll be using Southwest at .5 miles; after meeting the $1500 bonus threshold, it will end up 4.2 miles per dollar.

Full Price Options

See our List of Best Options for Full-Price Gift Cards on eBay. With 10% back, it could really make sense to buy at full price, especially the e-gift cards and some of the physical ones which come with free shipping.

Remember, you should also get 5x points when you pay with INK for gift cards from Paypal Digital Gifts as it’s been earning 5x for whatever reason.

Reselling Angle

There are some reselling opportunities as well with the current 10% Bucks offer.

Target

Link

If you don’t want to use the Target gift card, you can resell it.

  • Pay $185 for a $200 Target gift card
  • Sell to Saveya for $181 (90.5%)
  • Get $18.50 from Bucks
  • Get $3.70 from the portal
  • Get at least $3.70 from the credit card
  • Net profit: $21.90

Nice! Even if the rate goes down a little, it should still be profitable.

Cabela’s

Link

  • Pay $200 for a $250 Cabela’s gift cards
  • Sell to Saveya for $191.25 (76.5%)
  • Get $20 from Bucks
  • Get $4 from the portal
  • Get at least $4 from the credit card
  • Net profit: $19.25

Not bad!

Important: It’s very possible that the rate will go down on this one as it’s a smaller retailer so it’s not risk-free.

Jiffy Lube

Link

  • Pay $120 for a $150 Jiffy Lube gift cards
  • Sell to Cardcash for $114 (76%)
  • Get $12 from Bucks
  • Get $2.40 from the portal
  • Get at least $2.40 from the credit card
  • Net profit: $10.80

Did anybody run into the problem when checking out on ebay? Since new checkout interface was introduced I cannot buy anything on ebay – I got “error 70360, cannot process paypal payment”. My wife’s ebay account always getting bonus ebucks offers and now she has ~$300 ebucks pending. Her paypal account is “limited”, so she always used mine to checkout. Now, new checkout interface doesn’t let her to select my paypal account. I googled and found out that many people had the same problem, and calling ebay/paypal doesn’t solve the issue. THe suggestion was to have the same e-mail for both paypal and ebay. So, she created a new paypal account, but it didn’t help either. Any idea how to solve this issue? Maybe there is a backdoor link to old interface?

I’m having problems paying with eBay gift cards. What’s going on with eBay? Sounds like the split with Paypal is causing all this…

My negative PayPal balance is not helping me. I hate ebay buyers who con sellers.

forgive the somewhat noobie question – do I need to wait for a physical gift card to arrive in the mail before registering to sell them on a card exchange site? I’d like to lock in the price now, but dunno if they require submitting the card ID number on the order page, nor do I know how much time it’d take to receive the cards vs how long the exchange site allows me to deliver the card. thx.

I have only dealt with a few exchanges but each one required the card # and pin (if applicable). You’re probably going to have to sweat it out.

The Chevron GC for $95 from SVM was pulled just before the 5x Bucks went live. We might have seen the last of the great SVM gas card deals.

harry,
good thought on target. are you suggesting that using the Redcard AND paying with a gift card somehow results in 5% off the entire transaction (including the amount paid via gift card?) if so, how do you accomplish this? it’s not worked that way for me in the past; i’ve only gotten 5% off if i pay the whole thing with redcard.

Target gift cards can also be used to buy eBay GCs (5% off if you have Redcard). Useful if you’re rolling eBay GCs.

I’ve not been targeted since late September, but this one is really the first one that I wanted. What are you doing eBay?
