[Targeted] $20 Bonus on Fidelity 2% Visa Card

The Offer

Direct Link (requires unique offer code)

The Fidelity 2% Visa card from Elan is sending out various targeted spend offers on the card.

  • Get 1 point per dollar (3% cash back total instead of the standard 2%) on up to $2,000 in spend after meeting an initial spend amount on the card

I’ve so far seen two offers, though judging from prior offers there are probably dozens of variations of this offer:

  • My offer was that after spending $1,900, I’ll get a bonus point per dollar (max 2,000 point).
  • A reader got the same offer, but just needed to do $200 in spend before beginning to earn the bonus.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid after enrollment, from June 1 to July 31, 2017
  • Must enroll by June 30

Our Verdict

Basically, you’ll earn 2% until you hit the threshold, and then you’ll begin earning 3% for the next $2,000 in spend. Elan probably figures out how much they expect you to spend, and they offer you an extra 1% to spend beyond that (max $20).

If you use 2% cards a lot anyway, you might as well shift from Double Cash to Fidelity and get the $20 bonus. These days, there are some 2.5% or 3% cards available, and it won’t necessarily be worth shifting your spend (depending what threshold you got from Elan).

In any case, read the terms closely before using. It took me a few minutes until I realized that I do not get 2,000 bonus on $1,900 spend; rather, I get 1 point per dollar beyond $1,900 in spend.

(Yes, I’m also still waiting for my $25 Amazon bonus.)

DoC/Chuck – do you guys know if enrollment is retroactive as in counts ALL charges from 6/1 onwards even if you enroll today 6/22? You know just like how Chase Freedom is retro & counts all spend for the qtr even if you enroll on the last eligible day.

Or will Fido only count spend towards this promo *after* you enroll?

If anyone has any insights – it’d be much appreciated so I can avoid unnecessary extra spend. Thanks!

I’m sure everyone figured this out already but the spend was retroactively applied for me. Got the full $20 bonus when I wouldn’t have otherwise.

mine kicks in after $300 dollars. I received another one a few months ago that game me bonus points after spending $50.

I have two cards, one is after $50 spending, the other one, which is used more frequently is after $1900.

My offer on the Fidelity card is spend $150, then get an extra 1% on spend up to $2000. Not great. My No Fee Club Carlson has an offer of spend $50, then get an extra CC hotel point up to 2000 on spend. both cards end the bonus on July 31st.Haven’t used the CC card much since the end of the CC Bonus nights deval.

My Fidelity card is only a $600 spend to earn the 3% for the $2000. I may bite and put it in use for June/July.

Some other Elan Financial serviced cards are also getting such offers for June and July spending.
Not restricted to Fidelity cards

Due to the odd numbers, there is a joke somewhere, but I am not laughing with a $2900 starting point.

My threshold is $1050. Basically 2.66% CB is I spend exactly $3050.

Got the offer with $2800 spend first. Such a joke of a promo and could be easily misunderstood by a ton of people.

same. last time around it was $1400 spend or something. now they’ve doubled it coz I met that. I dunno how some of the folks are getting truly joke offers of $50 or $200 threshold.

it’s almost as if we’re being punished for making this our primary spend card – where we put pretty much all of our (non-bonused) spend on. atleast I do, so they think I’m gonna be spending the higher threshold amount anyways :/

I agree. This promo actually puts me off in a couple different ways. I am actually thinking of switching future spend back to my citi double cash.
