[Targeted] American Express Blue Cash Everyday Offer – Preferred Categories Until End Of Year For Existing Cardholders

A number of American Express Blue Cash Everyday cardholders have reported receiving an offer to earn additional cash back on their card until December 31st, 2016. The additional cash back means that you’ll earn at the same rate as the Blue Cash Everyday Preferred until the end of the year.

Remember that you’re capped at $6,000 spend at supermarkets per year. Nice little offer if you were targeted, without the annual fee this is definitely the best credit card for grocery store purchases.

Update: Readers point out that this extra 3% bonus does not have the $6,000 cap.

but the card only gives 6X on groceries, not drugstores?

I’ve got the card they call the NOBC – now with most groceries no longer allow the sale of $500 GCs, using a CC, do you see any value at all in this card?

Thanks

I was offered an upgrade with $100 statement credit for the BCP from BCE. Not exactly the same, but the credit offsets the $95 fee for a year then I can downgrade again.

And spend $1000 in 3 months, right? I have that email as well.
Not interested tho.

Yes $1000 in 3 months. I am leaning towards going for it. 6% in supermarkets is good.

My email says that I am preaproved for the same upgrade. Does that mean that they wont pull my credit again?

They won’t do a pull from my understanding since it’s an upgrade. You aren’t applying for new credit.

Beginning with the post by Arley, the topic shifted to a different email referring to an actual product change.

Like FB, is saying, the email i received is telling me that i am pre-approved for an upgrade. It warns me about the annual fee. Are you still of the opinion that there will not be a hard pull if i apply? Better question even, is this upgrade worth doing at all? The email does not say that they are waving the annual fee for the first year. Maybe it is better to just apply for the prefered blue cash, that is a separate product and i should gt the bonus even if i have the blue cash already.
Any advice is appreciated.

Hi William, there’s a second email going out offering $100 to upgrade. I posted it on reddit – https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/545w6v/amex_100_bce_to_bcp_upgrade_offer/ , will copy below:

Received this email from Amex today, didn’t see it posted yet

> Jed2Bed, are you ready to earn even more cash back?

> You already have a Card with great benefits. Are you ready for more? You’ve been pre-selected for an upgrade to the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express. Start earning even more cash back on your everyday purchases today. Request to upgrade now and earn a $100 statement credit after you use your new Card to make $1,000 in purchases in your first 3 months. Offer expires 11/17/2016.1

I’m gonna do a hard pass on this. With the Preferred’s a $95/yr fee, this ‘bonus’ worth only $5.

For those newer to this sub, if you apply for the Preferred as a new card (which you can do if you have the Everyday), you can get a $250 bonus (with luck; the most common offer seems to be $150) and [5% back on up to $4k in travel spend](https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/53z7os/amex_blue_cash_everyday_5_back_on_4k_travel_spend/).

Since the bonus for a new card is higher than the upgrade offer, I highly recommend that you do **not** upgrade, especially since if you take this offer, you will almost certainly not be eligible to get the bonus on the Preferred ever again.

I got a similar targeted ad via Email.
This was however just an upgrade to the Preferred with an offer for $100 if spend $1000 within 3 months. The $95 annual fee still applied.

Can I get an approximate date of the email send? Just this week, few days back, etc?

Searches, including in spam folder, yield nada for me.

Anyone think an email to customer service might shake the tree for me? Or the chat window pop up?

Thanks! 🙂

I chatted with customer service about it – it was like talking to a brick wall (i.e., no success).

Here is the language copied directly from the email:

“Note that during the Enhanced Benefits Period you will earn 3% additional cash back for purchases at U.S. supermarkets, even if you have spent $6,000 or more in purchases during the annual reward year for your Card.

Additional Card Members are not eligible for the benefit enhancement. ”

If you’ve hit your cap of 6K you’re in luck and will have a chance to earn more. So groceries should net you 1% (post cap rate) + 3% (targeted offer).

The Extra Cash Back is not included in the $6,000/year cap. Can you update the post?

From the fine print of the email:

“…Note that during the Enhanced Benefits Period you will earn 3% additional cash back for purchases at U.S. supermarkets, even if you have spent $6,000 or more in purchases during the annual reward year for your Card.”

most of us here already maxed the card out. 6k is the cap, so this offer is garbage for most, if you got it. it’s a snide way of getting you to use card if you didn’t remember that it is maxed out. You need great record keeping for this hobby. if you take them up and already maxed out, you only get 1%.

It’s not hard to see the breakout of ytd spend. On the amex site click on the rewards dollars and it will bring you to a page that will show you.

It doesn’t seem from the language that the additional 3% is capped at 6k. Do you believe that is the case?

You should definitely find out, would be interesting to see that data point I am sure

It looks like you are right. I received the email and just read the terms:

“…Note that during the Enhanced Benefits Period you will earn 3% additional cash back for purchases at U.S. supermarkets, even if you have spent $6,000 or more in purchases during the annual reward year for your Card.”

So it might be that once you pass $6k you’ll earn 4% since the initial 3% rate is capped at $6k and the extra 3% is not.

Not sure this is true, but a possibility.

My husband got this offer and in the fine print it said that it was only good for his card and not for additional cards on his account. Which means I will have to use his card since he doesn’t use it himself. Nice offer but it would make more sense if the additional card holder could use their own card as well.
